USB Cable Unresponsive until unplug and then Replug

I have a 23 XLT with a USB cable that I leave plugged in all the time. When I get in the truck, start up, and plug in my iPhone, it never starts charging until I unplug from the USB plug and plug it back it. This makes it start charging every time. If I unplug it from the phone and plug it back in, no charge.

What is going on here?

I’ve had that happen with wonky usb cords. There are several versions of USB cords. I suggest you find the latest USB-C cord, which is version 4. Enjoy and Happy Trails.

Had same issues until Music update a few months back, happens much less freq but still does occasionally. Same cord since bought the 23 XLT SO I will also look at v.4 usb C

Maybe the iPhone is not asking for a charge when the USB from the truck is plugged into the iPhone unpowered.

The USB in the truck may go idle after a period of time when the truck is powered off, and not come back on until a device is plugged in.

The iPhone may detect there is no power on the USB and not try to charge.

There is some signalling going on on the USB-c cables to initiate charging etc. which is too complicated to get into here.

Suffice it to say the truck and the iPhone USB need to talk to each other, and that requires your plugging and unplugging situation I suspect.
