I am leaning towards 10 years 100K as well. 10 years is a long time to have a vehicle as much as I like technology. And at less than 2K, that is not bad. Probably the money I saved getting a demo.
Can this extended warranty be transferred to the new owner if you sell the truck? I'm looking at the 10/100 option but will only keep the truck maybe 7-8 years. Having the extended warranty would be a very good selling point.

I felt the same way until I began buying new vehicles in my early 20s. I found almost no salesmen had any knowledge of finance and they would often give up on their scammy sales tactics when I would do math in my head in realtime in front of them to show that their projected monthly payments were nowhere near reality. When attempting to add x-plan pricing to ordered vehicles, they would either act like it wasn't something they could do, or they truly didn't know. I always got it done. When I would discuss recent technology trends in their vehicles, they'd spout off things that made it clear that they didn't understand what they were selling. The Lightning ordering process reinforced my belief that the salesmen are uninformed. Most finance guys have demonstrated little knowledge of the driving forces behind the finance rates and trends at any specific time and only seemed to know what their software would spit out at them for rates of a few local banks.

GMs/leaders at the dealerships seems to be the level where they begin to be as informed as enthusiasts like us on the products they sell.

My experience may differ from yours and is only anecdotal evidence of my assertion that many employees at dealerships are uninformed. Attempting to use it to your advantage when dealing with them might yield surprising results.
I think we’re pretty much in agreement. Your examples generally point to dealership employees trying to maximize their revenue. (“Scammy sales tactics…”)
Maybe they were ignorant, but I think they may have just been playing dumb because they know they can often catch a sucker. You will rarely see them do something stupid that comes out in the buyer’s favor.

None of the above. I had a car totaled 8 months into ownership. The insurance companies don't cover any extended warranty that you might have purchased and trying to get any pro-rated refund is a process designed to have you fail.

At the dealer, they'll try to scare you about replacement costs and repairs. You'll be presented with a list of potential costs and failures.

I make it a habit of buying nothing when I am placed in the "box" -- industry term for that finance guy is doing to you. Wheel and tire? Windshield coverage? Pre-paid maintenance? Extended Warranty? Key insurance? No to all of it.

Oh, and if you manage to lose a key fob, unlocking and driving your truck with your phone works great. You don't even need a fob with a Lightning.

As noted in this thread, the Lightning comes with an 8 year powertrain warranty. The only thing that can bankrupt you in this truck is covered by an 8 year/100,000 mile warranty.

I intend to hold onto my Lightning for at least a decade, but having three cars taken from me, last year alone, through no fault of my own, I take nothing for granted. Yeah, I am the guy with that luck telling you that you don't need any of the nonsense from the "box".

For those curious as to how one loses three cars in one year...
  1. Large 2 1/2 foot diameter tree fell on top of my Volvo XC70 -- totaled
  2. While in for service, a dealer employee drove a box truck into my Alfa Romeo 4C Spider -- totaled
  3. My Taycan was rear-ended by a driver, at speed, that didn't even bother to brake -- totaled
Oh, and my Harley Livewire got runover in a parking lot during my birthday brunch. 2022 was a big @#$ for all of my vehicles.

I digress. Please don't get scared and/or conned into buying this stuff. When I picked up the F150 Lightning, the finance guy told me that he's never had a customer skip the extended warranty options. He tried to present it like it was the biggest mistake of my life. My 14yo sat there amazed at the guy's gesticulation and hyperbole. I held firm and happily drove my truck away without any of the nonsense.
I had a similar interaction with the finance guy about not wanting any extra warranties. He had the same look on his face like I was making the biggest mistake of my life 😅. I chuckled and for the 10th time said to him "Nah I'm all set thanks. We can move on"

I am in California and purchased from Granger via the internet, so not true for me! Weird how extras are selected by not choosing "delete"...why is that?

Hey GoodSam, I am also in CA. Did you just apply through the website without any issue? I will give this a try as well.
Have you received the confirmation yet? Will it show up in the Fordpass app or account? Thx!

Agreed on the 8 year batt warranty. Besides that, the thing that concenrs me about this truck is all the computer modules and screen. Got screwed by this with Dodge.

They have a known issue with their screen peeling. If you are in warranty you are good. They may even work with you right out of warranty. Other than that the screen replacement is 1K at a min.

Given that example, I am looking at $1800 for the Ford warranty. Also considering this is the first MY of this truck.

-Interesting, I see that California is not available when trying to get a quote. I did not have that restriction last November, 2022. You may want to contact Granger, Brooke Keeran, brookek@grangeremail.com, 515-999-8248 to see what is up and let us know what she says.
-My FordPass App does show the extended warranty.
-Also, see the Granger Warranty thread, 12 pages so far, that should be combined with this thread: https://www.f150lightningforum.com/forum/threads/f150-lightning-extended-warranty-from-ford-protect-at-50-over-cost

Also, Flood Ford extended warranty page says https://www.floodfordesp.com/
" We are sorry but due to California law, California Residents are not eligible for out of state service contracts. Please contact your local dealer. "
I wonder what law changed. I live in CA and was able to buy from Granger last November, 2022. Crazy, as the warranty is good for any Ford dealer across the nation, right? My FordPass app shows the extended warranty expiration date to 2030.

Maybe this explains what is going on:
https://extendedautowarranty.com/news/extended-car-warranties-california/
and this found in a search, but the website would not open:

Apr 13, 2023Anyone who is not a licensed dealer who sells extended warranties in California is committing a felony. California also requires extended warranty administrators to have their own Vehicle Service Contract Provider license, which costs nearly $5,000 to get, and $847 to renew."

It's the same screen that they've been using in the Mustang Mach E that's been produced now for three years (used in more than 80k Mustangs). It's also the second model year of the F150 Lightning, not the first MY.

Understand your bad experience with Dodge, but Ford has been at this for a while and Sync feels like it's from the future compared to Uconnect.

Good point. I do have the 22 MY though (got a demo)

The prices on these ESPs are nuts considering what it doesn't cover --
Batteries and high voltage cabling are not covered. The drivetrain / batt are covered by a 8yr / 100k. None of the literature ford provides says anything about inverters / motors / etc...

The only reason I bothered getting one on my ICE F150 was the motor and trans. These ESP prices don't match the fact the EVs are missing the high cost items while it doesn't even cover the EV's important ones. Ford needs to get on the ball regarding EV specific plans because these current plans are square pegs for round holes. The motors contain the reduction gear and differentials.

There's also no mention of the PPOB inverters either -- the closest thing to relevance requires the 'premium' plan and only makes mention of hybrid components. They're quite 'bend you over' ambiguous. Personally I'd demand a very detailed list of items from their legal team or a refund in full if you were suckered into one.

My main reason for considering this is for the electronics (Screens, chips, etc.). I'm sure that any failure there will be very expensive. I assume that those items are only covered for 3 years under the standard Ford warranty?

I've put 36000 miles on my truck in just under 15 months. I figure that I will hit the 150,000 mark in about 5 years so I went with the premium 150K, 10 year, 200$ deductible and added the lighting package. With the PAK didn't see the need for the key fob package.
