This is all good information. I was about to ask the community the same question about extended warranty. Anyone in California buy this? I tried to do a quote but California isn't in the drop down menu. Glitch or is there something I don't know?

None. The EV power train is already covered by the 8 year, 100k mile factory warranty.
I went ahead and did the warranty on mine as it was fairly cheap and I figure that I'll probably need to replace some for the suspension within 10 years, but I do hope that people realize that this warranty does NOT cover the high voltage battery in the truck.

Per Granger: "This offer is good for anywhere in the U.S. with the exception of the state of Florida & California."
I think those states prohibit warranty purchase via the Internet.

One other thing to mention, you can use your Ford Pass Rewards towards the purchase of the ESP.

See if you can get a local dealer to match the Granger price. Nothing says you have to inform them that Granger cannot legally sell you the same product over the internet.

From the MachE forum. Something to consider. My brother lives in TN.

None of the above. I had a car totaled 8 months into ownership. The insurance companies don't cover any extended warranty that you might have purchased and trying to get any pro-rated refund is a process designed to have you fail.

At the dealer, they'll try to scare you about replacement costs and repairs. You'll be presented with a list of potential costs and failures.

I make it a habit of buying nothing when I am placed in the "box" -- industry term for that finance guy is doing to you. Wheel and tire? Windshield coverage? Pre-paid maintenance? Extended Warranty? Key insurance? No to all of it.

Oh, and if you manage to lose a key fob, unlocking and driving your truck with your phone works great. You don't even need a fob with a Lightning.

As noted in this thread, the Lightning comes with an 8 year powertrain warranty. The only thing that can bankrupt you in this truck is covered by an 8 year/100,000 mile warranty.

I intend to hold onto my Lightning for at least a decade, but having three cars taken from me, last year alone, through no fault of my own, I take nothing for granted. Yeah, I am the guy with that luck telling you that you don't need any of the nonsense from the "box".

For those curious as to how one loses three cars in one year...
  1. Large 2 1/2 foot diameter tree fell on top of my Volvo XC70 -- totaled
  2. While in for service, a dealer employee drove a box truck into my Alfa Romeo 4C Spider -- totaled
  3. My Taycan was rear-ended by a driver, at speed, that didn't even bother to brake -- totaled
Oh, and my Harley Livewire got runover in a parking lot during my birthday brunch. 2022 was a big @#$ for all of my vehicles.

I digress. Please don't get scared and/or conned into buying this stuff. When I picked up the F150 Lightning, the finance guy told me that he's never had a customer skip the extended warranty options. He tried to present it like it was the biggest mistake of my life. My 14yo sat there amazed at the guy's gesticulation and hyperbole. I held firm and happily drove my truck away without any of the nonsense.

I am in California and purchased from Granger via the internet, so not true for me! Weird how extras are selected by not choosing "delete"...why is that?

Price the fob coverage vs buying one yourself and programming it with the two you have before you lose one.

Assuming everyone is as in formed as you will only lead to disappointment.
Not everyone.….most dealers are acutely aware of things that might cost them money or limit their revenue.

I felt the same way until I began buying new vehicles in my early 20s. I found almost no salesmen had any knowledge of finance and they would often give up on their scammy sales tactics when I would do math in my head in realtime in front of them to show that their projected monthly payments were nowhere near reality. When attempting to add x-plan pricing to ordered vehicles, they would either act like it wasn't something they could do, or they truly didn't know. I always got it done. When I would discuss recent technology trends in their vehicles, they'd spout off things that made it clear that they didn't understand what they were selling. The Lightning ordering process reinforced my belief that the salesmen are uninformed. Most finance guys have demonstrated little knowledge of the driving forces behind the finance rates and trends at any specific time and only seemed to know what their software would spit out at them for rates of a few local banks.

GMs/leaders at the dealerships seems to be the level where they begin to be as informed as enthusiasts like us on the products they sell.

My experience may differ from yours and is only anecdotal evidence of my assertion that many employees at dealerships are uninformed. Attempting to use it to your advantage when dealing with them might yield surprising results.
