End of the day, we decided against vehicles with the max tow package. One more thing to go wrong. We *may* on occasion tow over 8k lbs, but short distances (10 miles or less) doing under 25 mph.

For the curious, a full ammonia fertilizer tank weights right at 10k lbs these days. My dad's 1965 F100 with a 240 I6 and a granny low manual transmission would pull these in 1965, but you had to be careful to have some weight in the box, otherwise it would spin a tire with the open differential. Slipping the clutch in 2nd gear helped. These beasts have no trailer brakes, but a SMV triangle painted on the rear. Farm country..........

Stopping those when the truck has drum brakes is an adventure. Granny gear helps that, too.

Interestingly, it (the 65) no longer has drum brakes. I restored/upgraded things 20 years or so ago. It's now kind of a show truck. But has front spindles from a 78' with disc brakes. I can lock all four, or at least the front 2 (not the best), with the still manual brakes, but now dual cylinder brake cylinder (1969 borrow)....

My plan if I can pull it off, is to get my Dad (now in 80's with Parkinson's) to drive them both one last time, and a little photo shoot.

Nice! My 78 F150 might have been my favorite farm truck. It was bulletproof.
