The dealer has a ton of power. I have a copy of the dealer instructions. You won't get a 2022 unless the dealer has forwarded your name as a 'priority' by midnight last night (12/17).
We all have a copy of the dealer instructions and NO, that's not the way it works.

Well, I interpreted that differently, based on my conversation with the dealer and reviewing the dealer instructions. I don't think there is any way to have a chance at a 2022 without being on the prioritization list, and my dealer wanted me to agree to $10K ADM to be on the list.

My dealer called and when asked if I had any questions I told him no, I have my 2021 Lariat I'm not expecting anything regarding the Lightning until 2023-2024.

He goes man I wish more people understood this like you do. Across all our dealerships all these people who think they will get one in 2022 are going to be sadly disappointed. There just won't be that many available.

Then you made a mistake and pretty much gambled $10k. Let us know if you get an invitation that first week, if you don't then I would go get my money back.

Ask yourself if you really NEED the vehicle as soon as possible. Chip shortages, which caused the supply to dwindle, is picking up. GM has adjusted the end of your guidance based on the unexpected increase in chips they're receiving. Ford is getting more chips too. I think waiting until 2023 would be best for those that can wait. Short of another global shutdown, dealers should be receiving a large increase in their inventories next year. Nobody is forcing anyone to pay inflated prices, so it's a matter of need vs want.

Yep, I agree. I think the chip supply will rebound and that will drive the price of used cars down as well. I'm just going to see how it plays out for the 2022. I'll see if I get an invitation to order from Ford and then see if I can negotiate with my dealer to get the ADM down. I know a lot of people are paying an ADM on all sorts of cars now, so it isn't completely crazy to expect one. But the market will change, it always does.

Also that priority list means nearly nothing, as a big piece of the puzzle is if what you want is even buildable. There will be a ton of constraints and non buildable setups out of the gate. You might be willing to pay $10k over and be #1 priority at your dealer, but say you want a long range and those arent being produced till 2nd run, it will not make your truck come any faster, and someone who ordered a standard range thats #43 at the same dealer because of allocation might get theirs a lot sooner. This is pure example

No sure what you mean by second run, but Ford has indicated that it will be adjusting its configurator after each wave so that only buildable trucks can be ordered. That is not to say that Ford will not prioritize certain configurations over others so that a later reservation/prioritization receives his truck sooner than yours.

2nd batch of trucks mid year. who knows what will be on first run constraints. I want a sport appearance, lariat long range. if any part of that is a constraint, even though Im #1 priority at my dealership has no bearing on if I get one first run.

I have not seen any indications of appearance packages being offered for MY2022. Is there something we do not know?

Realistically, auto manufacturers are going to need to move away from having dealers, but that is going to be really hard. You can see the fight that Tesla has in some states detailing with dealer rules.

It’s going to happen, and I suspect that direct-to-order vehicles like the Lightning will accelerate that decline.

Dealerships will absolutely go down swinging. I'm seeing Hyundai Ioniq 5 buyers starting to run into our good friend Mr. $10k ADM and getting angry about it.

Volvo is handling the Polestar in a pretty good way during this transition. Price is set by Polestar with no ADM anywhere and you simply use the dealer as a delivery acceptance center. Service is done either at Polestar centers or at select Volvo dealerships. They're offering to tow your vehicle within 150 miles to the nearest center, too.

Of course, like Tesla they're starting to see lawsuits roll in, first one I believe is from Illinois. I'm sure we'll see more, but it's a wounded animal clawing wildly in a blind rage at this point.

Nobody wants a dealership when they are acquiring.
But then if they need someone to service....

That is absolutely incorrect... you were either given incorrect information or just posting your own speculation.
