They are not holding back vehicles for an EV tax credit when they are reporting record low sales. Positive sales reports are far more important than carrying $2B in unsold inventory.

Getting closer here is a blend date of 4/26 - which sucks since my blend was 4/20

Sad blend-date 4/22 noises. Nothing new here either this morning.

Glad we're seeing anything though.

4/19 blend date here. My activation was canceled this morning. I‘m hoping that’s a sign that someone moving the truck hit deny. I started it again wishful that someone will hit accept.

They are not having record low sales on the Mach E since they are backed up for the remainder of the year. This is the vehicle that combined with the Lightning can end the full EV tax credit by June. Just the Mach E sales would pull the full EV tax credit reduction to within a few thousand or so without the Lightning being sold. Ford was only 39,500 vehicles away from that 200k as of Dec 31, 2021. Thankfully, the Mach E and Transit are the only current vehicles being sold. But if they shipped all of those Lightnings that are built, there is a very good chance that we would pass the 200k in June. Then everyone else would only get the $3,750 credit.

Have you been on the earnigns calls and seen the stock prices? They are in the business of selling cars, not storing them. Overall car production is down, and the first manufacturer that breaks this log jam will benefit.

I am not saying that earnings aren't down, the chip shortage has caused lower earnings for everyone at the moment across the board. It probably isn't going to end soon either.

Even if they crossed the 200k threshold by June the $7500 credit would still be in place for Q3. It drops to $3750 two quarters after the company crosses 200k. Also, it’s only 200k sold in the US, I don’t know if the tracking pulls out vehicles sold outside the US.

It is in their best interests to sell the 200,000th Ford electric/ hybrid car or truck on July 1st. Tesla did something very similar during their phase out. I think they still can deliver 3,000-6,000 in May/June, then ramp up delivers on July 1st.

Ford can't control that as tightly as Telsa does though since they don't control the actual sales.

I tend to agree with this if it was across all models, but it is just the MME, Lightning and I think the van. Most all of these are special orders, so they should have a pretty good count on how many are where in the pipeline.

Tesla executed this perfectly. They stopped within a few thousand US deliveries and made all Candian cars for a few weeks then switched back to US. Gave another 3 months of much higher production numbers access to the credit.

No - it is also all of their plug in hybrids (they count as well), across both the Ford and Lincoln brands.
