Somebody messed up and meant to include the opposite adapter to let the Lighting plug into Tesla Destination chargers, but procurement found these cheaper and booked the cost savings.
When this was mentioned i assumed that’s what was included, a male J1772 to female Tesla adapter. Is that not what was included?

No - from everything I have read this is the opposite - female J1772 to male Tesla. It is used to let Teslas connect to J1772 EVSEs. Tesla provides these with every car to let them connect to J1772 as needed.

The only use case for the Lightning is to use the Lightning as a "rescue" vehicle for a Tesla that is out of charge (use the mobile EVSE and the adapter to plug the Tesla into the 240V outlet on the Lightning. However, they also didn't include the adapter to actually plug the mobile EVSE into the 240V outlet, so you would be limited to using a 110V.

It makes no sense at all.

2022 Lightning (Ordered 6/19, delivered 10/28/22)
I am good with my current setup (40A Grizzl-e) for the summer and fall, but once the cold weather hits it will be a challenge to share that with my wife. I will likely be relegated to using the mobile charger on L1 to keep the battery warm while she plugs in every day, and I catch up on weekends. Before that happens, I would likely just buy another Grizzl-e and figure out what to do with the FCSP if/when we ever get it. Resell?

Of course that all depends on when I get my truck.....
I plan to install a 40 or 48A EVSE(probably chargepoint based on good reviews) and just sell the Ford/Sunrun unit. I don't need battery backup or to charge at 80A. Nor do I want to spend the extra $$ for a ~100A circuit.

Nice! They are including the adapter to plug in the mobile EVSE into the 30A/240V outlet as well. Didn't realize that! That combination must have cost Ford $50 to $75 per truck.

Hello everyone. I thought I’d check in with some real world experience for you all. I drove my Lightning to my home in Maine on Sunday, which is where I currently am. It is 315 miles one way for me. According to the truck I got 2.1 miles per kw. I stopped for 20 minutes at a 150kw Electrify America charger and brought the truck back up to 50% SOC, more than enough to get to my home from where I stopped. TheLCD screen on the charger showed the rate of charge averaging at 93kw. When I arrived I had approximately 35 miles left and the truck was warning me that the charge state was getting low. I plugged into the EVSE I have here. It is the unit that I was given for free by Chrysler when my 2017 Launch Edition Pacifica Hybrid was delayed for 6 months as a way to say sorry it was delayed (see pics). It’s max charge rate according to its specs is 30amps, good enough to charge the 16kw battery in the Pacifica in 2 hours. I plugged in at approximately 10:30pm. The truck was fully charged at approximately 3:30pm the next day. It’s ok for me up here, but back at my house in NY I look forward to getting my 80 amp charger installed there. I have a 13kw standby Generac propane generator already hooked up to my home so I don’t need the home backup the truck can provide. My electrician buddy and I will install the charger ourselves. I have 200amp service in the detached garage that the truck will live in. I currently only have four 20 amp circuits total in the garage so I have lots of headroom in my panel. I hope that answers some questions.

Thanks for sharing! Did you go up the side roads through Vermont and New Hampshire, or I-90 through Massachusetts?

We just did a very similar trip with our Mach-e (old orchard beach) and I am trying to get a feel for the efficiency difference. We went up on I-90 (around 2.4mi/kWhr) and back on the side roads (3.0 mi/kWhr)

Good info. I think a lot of people under estimate how big a 131 kWh battery is and how long it takes to recharge if ran down. I created the spreadsheet below that shows charge times at different charger levels. With a 30 amp charger, it takes 17 hours to get back 250 miles.

My normal route is enter the NYS Thruway at exit 18 (New Patlz), I live 7 minutes from there. Get off at exit 21A Berkshire connector and follow I-90 Mass Pike all the way to 495N. Then 495N to 95N. Then I-195 Old Orchard Beach exit. My home is on Walnut Street. I have driven my MME FE here as well, but I haven’t made the trip in my MME GTPE yet. My MME FE and it’s smaller battery charged over night here no problem.

Thank you for posting this. It was my intention for others to realize just how long it will take to recharge with the provided mobile charger or a less amp EVSE than the one Ford is eventually providing to ER customers. I am sure for some it will not make a difference while others may need the truck fully charged for them in the morning.

Thank you so much! Few quick questions...

-When you say you averaged 93kw, any idea why so low?
-What was the ballpark temp.
-What was your average speed ballpark (sounds like all highway).

This info is so helpful and has me much more excited of the real world range!

Yeah - coming from that direction that route makes the most sense. We come from the Schenectady area (Exit 25), so the options are a bit different. We went that exact same route and needed 1 charge to get there (over dinner near Springfield - no issues). On the way back we took the Northern route. Beautiful drive. We did 1 quick (<10 minute) charging stop in New Hampshire, but would have made it home on ~10% battery without it. For you it would be a longer drive, but worth it if you get the chance - some great mountain views!

My daughter is looking at SUNY New Paltz as her top college choice (as of today), so maybe our Lightnings will pass each other on the road in a couple years!

No, but I assume it was the charger. There was a Kia EV6, a VW ID4 and a Polestar charging at the the other chargers, but I have no idea if that would effect the charger I was plugged in to.
-What was the ballpark temp.
It was between 70-55 degrees for the 5/12 hours of my trip decreasing as I drove into the night. When I arrived it was 56' and I remember mentioning to my daughter that it was chilly here when we were taking stuff out of the truck.
-What was your average speed ballpark (sounds like all highway).
I would say 73mph. I set the cruise at that and I use the cruise often during the trip. BlueCruise was pretty cool and worked as advertised allowing me to eat a little dinner while still watching the road. If you look away too long, it lets you know.
-This info is so helpful and has me much more excited of the real world range!
I'm happy to help when I can!

I often thought of trying the northern route but it always seems like we are in a rush to get here or there. When it's just the wife and I in three years when we send our second to college, we will probably slow down a little and enjoy the scenic drive. It's actually around 30 less miles for us to go 84 through Connecticut but that is a crap shoot as whether or not you will sit in traffic around Danbury, Waterbury and then Hartford.

SUNY New Paltz is a great school, my daughters friend just completed her Freshman year there. I'm sure your daughter will love it and it's not too far from home in Schenectady. We are season ticket holders at Proctors so I am very familiar with exit 25. Who knows, you may see my Lightning up there as well!
