Here is the equation for calculating "constant" dollar:

Second Year Constant Dollar Value=FYDVĂ—CPI2/CPI1
where:
FYDV=First year dollar value
CPI2=Consumer price index for second year
CPI1=Consumer price index for first year

Let's see what we get:
XLT SR MSRP $52,974 ($54,769 w/dest.) x 9.1/7 = $68,866.20 ($70,661.20 w/dest.)

My Smoked Quartz Lariat ER w/ Max Tow ($78,809) will be "worth" $102,451.70 in constant dollars. Of course, I'd assume the 2022s already had inflation factored into their pricing given it was already out of control by end of 2021.
Um- the ratio of CPIs should be 109.1/107, not 9.1/7. So,
XLT SR MSRP $52,974 x 109.1/107 =$55,843.90

I dont have an issue with them giving that much to the extenders, but I think giving other remaining reservation holders nothing is a bit of a slap in the face considering we also have to deal with rebate limbo , an even longer wait and many of us had reserved just as early or earlier than people who got deliveries. I certainly dont think Ford has a legal obligation, but I think they should throw people a bone. I'm not going to take delivery if I can't get a min of 7500 off between tax rebate and some type of Ford personal Cash. They raised prices so much that it may leave room to decrease prices next year if the lithium/cobalt market cools off.

Hahaha, thanks for pointing out I boneheaded the calculation. The formula is correct but I accidentally used the percentage change instead of the CPI.

That said, adding 100 to the percentage change won't get you to the actual CPI.
Here's the historical data from the US Bureau of Labor: https://www.bls.gov/cpi/tables/supplemental-files/historical-cpi-u-202207.pdf

Since August data aren't released yet, we'll use July 2021-2022, which is 273.003 and 296.276, respectively. Recalculated values are:
XLT SR MSRP $52,974 x 296.276/273.003 = $57, 489.94
(my) Lariat ER as configured MSRP $78,809 x 296.276/273.003 = $85,527.32

We can check my work with the online inflation calculator BLS provides here: calculatorhttps://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm (July 2021 -July 2022).

Please don't be too harsh on this old professor because I've still got another week until semester starts :)

Where did they officially announce this? I must have missed it. (This isn't sarcasm, it's a real question. I know it's hard to tell on the internet haha)

And to be clear, I'm asking about the claim that customers won't be presented the offer until the dealership.
This sounds like an invitation for a MAJOR surprise at delivery....

Wow, if that's true and people with extended reservations really get those discounts, then I'm impressed.

I was expecting much less.

The conversion rate is going to be ~100% for people who extended reservations at this point. You'd be crazy NOT to buy one at such a big discount off of the current MSRP.

Looks like they announced the Private Offer discounts above and they're big. The surprise could be dealers knowing that you're getting one and trying to get a piece of it for themselves, though.

Couldn't agree more! Particularly since it wasn't a FIFO process when reservations were converted to orders. Even splitting the price increase in half would be a peace offering. I get that commodity prices have gone up, but there was nothing in the consumers power to pick or choose when we wanted to convert our reservations to order. Guess we'll have to settle for the free extended warranty and car washes the dealership will offer, as long as we do our oil changes at said dealership. /s

Exactly my point. I would want the price in the order, not have to beg the dealer for it at pickup.

Yeah, that's a big question:

Will the Private offer be shown on the order document online? Or we just hope the dealer doesn't pull anything at delivery? I feel pretty good about Granger, but it certainly would be nice if it was in the online order thing up front.

Something to consider: This private offer will not impact the MSRP of the trucks, so the ER trims will not be eligible for the revised tax credit.

don’t think prices will be coming down… even though inflation might be moderating, prices are still increasing.
