“Hidden” Frunk Functionality (FYI)

Could be only me (wouldn’t be first time) to have not realized this, but if only for those still waiting on their trucks to avoid the learning curve:

The funk lid slides into to a selection of sub-frunk channels to create a frunk partition / load stabilizer

The above positions require the sub-frunk to be empty (at least empty in a way to not impede the lid from fully engaging into the channels.


Separately, the half-slot nearest the cab acts to hold the lid vertical while accessing the entire sub-frunk.

I never saw it advertised, and my dealer/salesperson sure had no idea (mine Was the first Lightning he’d ridden in)

So I thought maybe there are others like me and my salesperson

Ford briefly mentions that feature in the owner's manual, but goes into great detail about removing the luggage compartment covers, in the frunk.
What would be the purpose of removing the covers, more room???

These dealers are so uneducated about their products. It’s one of the reasons consumers prefer Direct 2 Consumer

yeah I’m definitely intrigued by the utility, eg for placing only a few grocery bags, etc

but a little miffed that the sub-drunk has to be empty - I found that a useful area for 12v jumper, cargo net, etc.

Seems the choice is keep sub-drunk empty to use cargo dividing function, or use sub-drunk storage and lose cargo dividing function?

I keep my mobile charger and a set of jumper cables in there, so if I need the divider, it's easy enough to pull out the two items in there and put them in the net or something.

(Jumper cables not for Lightning's use, but in case others are stranded...)

I did know about the divider but one thing I didn’t realize until i got the truck is that the underside of the divider is rubberized to match the rest of the frunk floor. It’s always shown with the plastic molded side up (i presume because it says 400L/400lb and other advertising miscellany). It came that way when i got the truck, as well. I had it installed like this until i noticed it makes much more sense to flip it over and have a uniform frunk floor.

I’d be interested in whether any of this still works if a person purchases and installs:

might the carpet just flex up in a way that retains functionality of the lid slots?

Used it this afternoon to take some gas to my wife, whose van had run out of fuel. Great feature.
