I am currently waiting to convert my reservation to an order. My plan has been to get a loaded Pro since I attended the Lightning road tour in Daytona. I currently have 2 EVs in the garage a Ford Focus Electric and a Tesla M3 LR RWD. I also have a 40A Leviton charger with a 25ft J1772 cord already installed in my garage to charge my current vehicles. Focus EV will be traded in on the Lightning.

I have confirmed that my current breaker setup can be upgraded to replace the 50A circuit with 100A for the Ford 80A charger. With the SR limitations on charging is it worth it to upgrade?

I don't have solar and I'm not currently planning to install the HIS but might in the future or might work the generator manual transfer switch to pull from the bed power.

I understand the SR trucks only have a single charger in them which allow for up to 48A charging, so going to the FCSP might be a bit of overkill.

Are there times when charging is not finished when you need it to be?

If the answer is "no", then I'd probably suggest sticking with what you have for now. If the answer is "yes", then you might consider upgrading the wiring to 100A-capable but only fit it with a 60A breaker and a less-expensive 48A EVSE. That will give you 20% faster charging speed and will match the max of your vehicles.

I probably wouldn't go with the FCSP until you're sure you're going to use the home integration stuff. The FCSP has a CCS combo 1 connector on it and will not fit older EV's that don't have a CCS connector (and you'll have to modify your Tesla adapter for it to fit as well).

Correct, the SR has a single onboard charger max of 11kW (48A) for L2 charging.

It's huge waste of money to buy a $1300 charger when you can lot less not to mention underutilizing the FCSP by using a derated power output...

I have an SR Lariat and love my UL listed EVSE: Emporia 48A L2 charger - $450 charger + $300 electrician came out cheaper than buying a $800 48A or $1300 80A Ford EVSE.

The Emporia is shared between my wife's and my EV.

48A is way fast to charge and uses the maximum charge.

I can track how much kWh by the hour, day, week, month, etc...

Ok so my current Leviton 40A is connected to a NEMA 6-50 port. What connection does the Emporia 48A L2 charger use 15-50? Hardwired?

Is it worth the extra $$ for 8A and diagnostic/web interface to upgrade from my Dumb 40A charger to the Emporia instead of the 80A Ford unit?

Can Tesla's pull more than 48A through the J1772 to Tesla adapter so the 80A might benefit the SR Lighnting a little (8A) and our M3 alot?

You have to hardwire to charge over 40A. A 60A hardwired charger, if capable, will deliver 48A.

I would use your current charger first and see if that works for you instead of possibly wasting a bunch of money.

If you have a 40A that works, keep it and use it.

The Emporia uses a 14-50 plug but max current is 40A.

If you hard wire it, you can get 48A on a 60A breaker.

For 8A more, might not be worth the expense IMO.

Emporia hardwired to 60A breakers - full 48A and runs cool even in the hot summer garage...

I use a ChargePoint Flex for my Mach-E and I'll continue to use it for my Lightning because speed isn't as important for a home charger because it can charge all night.

The ChargePoint Flex can be configured through software to push out more current depending on the size of the size of the breaker, but in either case, it will never be more than the truck can pull.

Mine is configured as a 60A. I'm told that the breaker setting is 20% more than the power delivered, so that works out to exactly 48A.

@Kiggulak I hate the be the bearer of bad news, but 2023 Pros are no longer available to order, so you're looking at 2024+ for a Pro...meaning you'll have to hope you don't have the option to order a 2023 since Ford is also not allowing reservations to be extended anymore. 🙁

I second the suggestion to use what you have first to see if it fits your needs first.

FYI, Ford has not announced the 2023 Pro are no longer available to order. They just didn't allow customers who didn't extend a Pro reservation to select them.

However unless you know you are really close on your dealers list you are most likely waiting for a 2024.

True -- good clarification on the Pros.

I’ll spec out the 100a and 60a breaker and a hardwire upgrade from my 6-50 socket from my electrician, and keep using my 40a until timing needs require the upgrade or I go Solar.

Yea I’ve read the speculation on the 2023 Pros being sold out and I’m hoping that the Pro trim will open up again in waves 3 and 4.

My dealer let me test drive the mannequin Pro they got before they installed it on the showroom floor for the next 6 months. They won’t confirm where I am on the list but it seems like I’ll be in wave 3-4 for 2023MY.

My concern is that Ford isn't going to give extensions from 2023 to 2024 for Pro trims once sold out in 2023.

No it does not, 48A charger adds 10.5kWh per hour, for 98kWh battery, charging from 20% to 80% takes less than 6 hours.

Doesn't look good for extensions

If my preferred vehicle configuration is not available, can I hold my place in line for a later MY vehicle?
No, once invited to order, you will have the availability to select any of the current models available. You can also cancel your reservation and receive a deposit refund at any time.

Yea I saw that.

Here's to more Pros available within the 150,000 unit production in the 2023 MY, especially since they jacked the price up and have pushed out Pro production to late 2023. Are there any links to the 2023 trim percentiles like we saw for the 2022 MY when production first started?

Worst case I order a higher trim and have to flip it before 48mo are up.
