Anyone know what would happen to the motors if you drove in deep water? 16 to 24 inches deep?

I presume that Ford has taken some steps to seal what needs to be sealed for minor road water, but not 16-24 inches.

(Note - it's just a bad idea all-around. I've seen all sorts of corroded connectors from water infiltration, and while the motor and battery pack may be reasonably sealed, you're likely to end up with problems later.)

Know? No. Guess? Yes.

If you did that, nothing would happen to the motors, they're environmentally sealed. I'd be more concerned about the axles, shafts, rubber boots, etc. Especially since those shafts seem to show corrosion pretty quickly, dunking them in water probably doesn't help.

From the owner's manual:

Never drive through water that is higher than the bottom of the wheel hubs.

16 to 24 inches deep is way deeper. Don't do it.

Have a feeling Rivian will discover this was not a good idea or claim. Esp. in moving water or rough waters as folks will try. Some fool is going to get killed trying this in a bad circumstance...

Well sometimes you don't have a choice but to drive through deeper water. I was wondering if the truck would die or can it do it.

Sure you do. Unless it's life or death.

Of course you have a choice. Turn around. It’s not worth the risk to you or first responders - even though they may be trained in swift water rescue.

there's a great video somewhere of a driver taking a tesla through a lake, they put a ton of weights in it so it would not float, and they basically drove it submerged through the lake multiple times.
edit- found it.
