DEVO. It stands for “Douche-bag EV Owner”

Here are two at the VERY first EV charging station I visited, located at a local hospital. (That’s my Lightning). Not only are these two fine citizens NOT charging, they are not plugged in AND they are in an “emergency room only” spot making them Double-DEVOS. (They were both there over 2 hours and did NOT go to the ER.)

I hope this is not what I am going to find from fellow EV owners.

Come on. We need to do better. Maybe start a national DEVO database complete with pics, plates, and car makes. Let’s shame people into doing the right thing.

I've definitely seen EV drivers use the spots without plugging in simply because they feel entitled to the up front location of the spot. Pointless.

If the spots were in the back, I'm guessing it would be less of a problem. Most of the paid fast chargers like Electrify America tend to be in the back because the charging companies know every wasted parking spot will cost them quite a bit of money.

Personally, I prefer spots in the back anyway. I need the exercise, and I park in the back out of habit because there's more room and fewer cars.

Nah! What we need is to start ticketing and towing these duchebags.
I can see from the photo the sign says "Only while charging"... What's missing is something that tells them the consequences.

Since most of those charger spots are on private property, they can't ticket them, but the landlords could impose towing. Most landlords won't enforce that because of the expense and hassle of dealing with angry customers who get towed.

Fast charger companies like Electrify America are another story. They have the most to lose and they could enforce with towing and deflect any complaints that would've gone to the landlords.

I walked into the Security office which is very close and across the parking lot from the chargers. There were 3 employees and I confirmed they keep an eye on the EV charging area. Also, there was a small Ford SUV doing rounds around the hospital grounds.

When I asked about unplugged EVs, they said “we don’t really care”.

Yes they can. Most handicapped spots are on private property too, and in AZ that's subject to $250 fine.

Lazy douche bags. They're even too lazy to plug-in to at least make it look halfway legit.

Handicapped parking spots are required by and protected by law. EV spots are electively placed there by landlords to attract customers. Police are not obligated to enforce them.

Not sure how towing rules work. If you're a landlord and someone is in violation of your parking rules, can you have a towing company tow the vehicle at the owner's expense, costing the landlord nothing but a phone call?

I would say it depends on the state or municipality, but generally that is correct.

Absolutely. As a landlord, if you put up a sign saying don't park here or you will be towed, you have every right to tow... not ticket the offender.

Ticketing is breaking a law. Towing is a landlord exercising their rights.

Basically, I'm saying they can tow you, but not ticket you... and that most retailers won't tow customers because the don't want the hassles from angry customers.

Also, if the spots are leased to a charging company that sells power instead of giving it away for free, they're definitely going to want to tow you so they can earn money from that spot.
