I did it purely as insurance, if there's some major problem with my lightning or if I total it within the next two years. It's completely refundable, and I might be in a position to need it when the time comes
Mmm, how come it's refundable. Problems are only covered in warranty and You get nothing if you total.

I meant the $100 deposit on the Denali is refundable if I chose not to order a truck in two years. I just reserved a spot in line.

Lol didn’t get a chance but wasn’t going to get the $107k version anyway. I see they took the infotainment from the the Lightning. I like it.
It's on of the things I like the least about the lightning... just give us regular damn buttons!!!!

Hey they might make 500 of em to out pace the Hummer EV
So far I've been really underwhelmed with GMs EV rollout. The Lyriq and HUMMER EV have both been selling slowly, despite an introduction a few months ago.

By contrast Ford has been producing and selling loads of Lightnings(approaching 15,000 I think) despite production only starting 5 months ago. Ford has also ramped up Mach E sales significantly...

I know GMs got "big" plans(Silverado, Equinox, Blazer EVs) but as it stands rights now I'm just not seeing GM pushing units out the door like I expected...

Beyond that, I am not that thrilled overall with the specs coming out on the "Ultium" platform. While it has potentially faster charging (800V), it seems to be very heavy and relatively inefficient. All of the GM offerings seem significantly heavier than the competition and only get equal or longer range by loading in tons of batteries (which offsets the charging advantage).

Case in point:
- Silverado / GMC Denali EV - 400mi range with 200kwhr of battery = 2.0 mpk
- Lightning ER - 320mi range with 131 kwhr of battery = 2.44 mpk

The Lightning is ~22% more efficient!

Didn't know the reveal was today...I received an email yesterday inviting me to reserve. Also received the confirmation of the reservation email. I have owned Sierra Denalis in the past, in fact, I traded in a 2019 with 13.5k miles for the Lightning.
I read in one of the reviews of the reveal that GM had reached out to previous Denali owners to allow them to make a reservation up to two days ahead of it opening to the general public at 5:00 pm EST 10/20.

Agree - GM has been stretching their EV offerings way thinner with more models than Ford and thus shows when they launch this Denali EV without any fanfare, no live video show, nothing to make you want to order - just a static web page to place your reservation.

Sort of a letdown when you compare to Ford's unveiling.

At least my wife's '23 MME is finally scheduled although we won't have the same IBSM colors we had planned on...

Moreover, mass production is not going to start until late 24/early 25. That's at least 2yrs away. The Silverado was announced Jan 22 with most trims not being started until summer '24.

Ford announced the Lightning in May 2021 and about 12months later was churning them out in respectable numbers.

I have a Blazer EV reservation also(replacement for my wife's 2009 Escape hybrid)--but given the slow rollout of the Lyriq I wonder how long it will be before that model rolls out in significant numbers...

I am not sure how accurate your figure of 22% more efficient really is between the two vehicles, but many are expecting the battery pack to be larger in both the Silverado and Sierra EVs. Studies have shown overall EV drivetrains are pretty efficient in that they provide 85-90% of the energy from the batteries to the wheels when ICE vehicles achieve more on the order of 15-25%. It is a lot harder to make improvement on that last 10-15%, but it definitely is a focus in the industry.

I myself have put in a reservation on the Denali primarily due to both the larger range and the higher charging rate.

The 22% is just based on the EPA ratings and battery sizes. We won't get anything more accurate until the GM twins hit the street and people can do real world range tests.

I think the charge port location is going to be a challenge on the Silverado and Sierra. DC fast charge stations have pretty short cables and I have found them to be a challenge for plugging into the Lightning with its location. Silverado and Sierras would have to be backed into most stations that I have made use of to date that are designed for pulling into head first and plugging into somewhere on the front of the vehicle.
