Where is the charging station etiquette?

What's the etiquette on the line/queue? From my limited experience there's no natural formation of a line, only a car or two parked nearby waiting for the next open station. Do folks arriving at a full station for the most part recognize an informal queue based on order of arrival? Do you wait in an adjacent parking spot or in an aisle ready to jump (this is probably location dependent). Do you engage with the charging folks to try to figure out which spot is freeing up next?

This is my question too!

When I drive up to a full set of public DCFC chargers, I sort of see who is waiting for a charger based on the vehicle, but there is no way to know who is next.

Need a pull number tag system !

In my experience with EA chargers, I usually see people collectively create a queue and follow that. I’ve also seen some random ass just happen to pull in as a charger is feeing up and attempt to charge. It typically doesn’t go well for that individual as there’s an instant swarm of people who have been patiently waiting “in line”. Only once did said bad apple pretty much really the line of ppl to “F” off and there wasn’t much that could be done at that point.

ChargePoint and EVgo have a reservation system but I don’t know if all their stations utilize it. EA does not.
EA has a bell system that tells you when a charger opens up.

But nothing like "who is next gets to charge system"

Fastest way to educate people is through the wallet...

$200 fine if you occupy an EV Charger without being plugged in.

Charge based on time spent... EA already have this some places to an extent...
If you're a 50kw/h guy occupying a 350kh/h charger your rate should also be 3-4 times as high as if you were on a 100kw/h charger (where options are available).
Charge per rate supplied:
100+ kw/h is $0.10, 50kw is $0.30 10kw/h is $0.60
Charge per reached state of charge:
Up to 80% at one rate, 80-90 another and 90-100 is $1 per kw/h

This way you're giving people a financial incentive to move, many times today EV spots are prime parking spots and people plug in wether or not they need it simply because they can. Make it hurt the wallet if they "over stay".

Obviously there's more metrics and massaging required, I'm just outlining the general concept, not saying this is the exact answer...

Here's the problem with your request. You've got the uninformed, you've got the idiots, you've got the a-holes, and then you've got the rest.

While in some areas like California and Arizona, you may find congestion, much of the rest of the country is not experiencing that. Yes, it's changing, and it may get worse before it gets better.

A fantasy for a moment: Our 2nd heaviest EV on the market, can pull 7700 lbs right out of an EV spot.
That could potentially cause damage. Parking directly behind them while you wait and blocking them in however...

Yeah the fantasy ends with real damage you're liable for, random crowd approval not withstanding.

What good is it to block them while they are actively going nowhere anyway?
Guess the social thing to do is shame and report.

My issue is unlike Tesla, by me EA and EVGo don't charge idle fees. I think this will be an absolute must.

The mechanism is there to charge idle fees on EA, but most stations seem to be set to $0.00 per minute
