Free charging credit with new truck?

Has anyone’s remaining available kWh shown on ford pass stopped at 1 kWh? I used EA for a charge of 50-60ish kwh since it did stop at 1 and the charge did not show up on the history nor did I get a ford pass app alert or email with a receipt like before running down to 1.

Plug and Charge works Flawlessly on EA chargers for me. But 250 KW was not much. I wish ford rewarded us with a 1+ years of free charging like other car manufactures. It is kind of embarrassing when you talk to others at EA chargers about this when they ask how much free charging you get. Lucid, VW, Rivian, BMW all have free charging for 1-3 years.

I was concerned about this very thing yesterday, when I knew my next EA stop would blow thru the remaining 20kwh of 'free charge'... but, the EA station did NOT stop, and it kept going, billing me for the difference between the last 'free' amount and the new amount over that. Since then, it has worked flawlessly with no issues, and I receive information on the EA screen, a text alert with my charge and any 'balance', and an EMAIL about the charge billing.

true, but I look at Ford's credit as 5 'fill ups' when traveling under the initial 'getting to know your truck while traveling' learning period - where 'money' is not getting in the way of learning 'how' to charge, etc... 'fill ups' being 1/2 tank, which is about what the 'average' fill up might consist of, from say 20% to 70% charge, etc.

I've noticed, too, with EA 150kw chargers that the main 135-150kw speed continues for the most part until 70%, when it starts backing down, slowly, but surely, until you reach 80%, when it REALLY starts slowing, and at 90% you might as well plug into a Level 2 unit. But, even with the reduced speed after 70%, it is still wonderfully fast as compared to ANY chargepoint/ev go 'slow chargers', unless you hit one of the new EV Go 'tsunami' stations.

you might also want to review the 'actual' 'FREE' charging from 'other manufacturers'...you might find that their 'free' credits actually are 'up to 1 year, or 250kw, whichever is first' type fine print.

It's great they don't do the free year(s). This is going to create huge bottlenecks at chargers. It's an awful idea.

VW I.D. 4 gets 3 years free. and Lucid 2 years. I think the bottlenecks are already there. But at least we have a truck .

I'm an ev owner for years, with Leafs, so nothing new there.

I'm not new to traveling with my Lightning, either. PlugNCharge is the ability to, yes, simply plug in and charge, which to me, means NOT HAVING TO SWIPE A CARD or do anything at the 'machine' to provide the payment method. Having the ability to actually/simply touch the ACTIVATE on the Ford Pass App to have the ability to then hop out and simply PLUG IN TO CHARGE, is just as simple - that's why I consider the same.

Ok, but that's a unique definition. Most people consider having to open the app and activate NOT plug and charge.

I get that not having to have a specific company's own app to charge is VERY NICE, although, yes, I might have not 'really' needed to reactivate my old Chargepoint account, though it seemed as though that's what the final outcome became. Chargepoint customer service could not tell me why, either. But, once I re-established the account, it DID work.

None of these things are necessarily 'easy' in today's ev world. We are ALL working through how it works for us and our own needs and situations. I, personally, don't want separate charge companies apps to deal with, when the Ford Pass App can do all the 'work' for me. I don't really 'care' about whether I'm getting the 'best' price, as I really RARELY use fast charging, in light of everyday costs.

I get that. You probably don't use GasBuddy for ICE vehicles, and wouldn't drive past a Shell gas station to fill up at Costco. Many would, including me. I'm not paying 38.7% more for a kilowatt because I have to use an app instead of just plugging it. And the $4 fee breakeven is almost immediate.

I don't like that the charge providers have to continually 'debit' your credit card to add another 'balance' to your account, rather than just charging you for what you use, at the time you use it. Chargepoint dinged my account for $70, although I never charged at any of their stations for more than a $15 charge fee - which is when I decided that using 'their' app was not in my best interest.
They refunded the full account balance, but I do remember the customer service person stating that specifically: "you will also no longer be able to use the app to charge at any Chargepoint stations, or EV GO stations"... which I thought was strange. But, I blew it off thinking that the Ford Pass App would still integrate the payment, but it did not. I even tried using the Chargepoint 'guest feature', inputting my credit card manually, but it would never ACTIVATE the station.

I get you don't like the balances, but I've never had anyone ding my account for $70. Most fill with $10, then when it gets below $5 put in another $10. I have a $9.53 balance with EA right now, and $11.39 with ChargePoint, because they refunded me $6.27 for a charge.

While I don't like balances all over the place, I can see them in Quicken where I put in all my expenses.

I have to emphasize that your cause and effect regarding ChargePoint and the BlueOval Network is not right - it may seem that way, but thousands use the BlueOval Network at ChargePoint chargers without ever having a ChargePoint account. When you plug in with BlueOval, the network (EA, ChargePoint) never sees you - Ford approves you and tells them to turn on the charger for Ford, not for you, which is why your ChargePoint / EA apps have no info on that session.

Assuming you used your free 250 hours up, that means you have in fact activated the BlueOval network (there is no BlueOval app, it's FordPass).

EA is true Plug and Charge via the BlueOval network, but you don't get the discount that you're getting through EA. YET.

ChargePoint is supposed to be Plug and Charge, but it doesn't work reliably, which is why Ford sent out the message to EV owners.

Let's be clear - Plug and Charge refers to the ability to plug in your vehicle and do nothing else, and it charges. It is not a Ford-specific term, nor does it refer to the BlueOval network.

So I just checked my Ford Pass app and it has not yet been activated.

After I activate, and use up the 250kWh trial, would I be able to change the card tied to it ?

I have all my public charge apps on a single card (business credit card) to make the expenses easy at the end of the year.

The prospect of having true plug and charge (no apps, no cards to swipe, no charger interaction) is what I would like from EA. Currently I like the EV Go AutoCharge+ feature.

Yes, but you will be paying a higher price. $0.43/kWh vs $0.31/kWh.

It's under Vehicle (icon) -> CHARGING -> Blue Oval Charge Network -> Plug & Charge

These options aren't available in the current app anymore. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

In the 5.0 version of the FordPass app on your phone, click the Account icon in the upper right (the person icon). Then under Other Services, click Connected Services. Give it a second to load up all the available services. Blue Oval Network should appear. You will see an Activate button (or Manage if you previously activated).

Awesome, thank you! Found that, now it's connected. I have a different credit card on file here than I do in my EA app. Nothing shows up in my EA app. Not sure if it's supposed to but how do I find out my free kwh balance?

Blue Oval is separate from the EA app. They don't share credit cards. BON uses the credit card you stored in your Ford Account.

Free balance won't show in EA app either. I have used all my kWh so I'm not sure where the balance is shown in the new FordPass app if it's even shown at all.
