Steel 17" wheels from Tirerack?

Has anyone considered, or better yet installed, the 17" steelies from Tire Rack? They're just 27.6 lbs and have the stock factory +44 mm offset for a nice aero-loving tuck. And yes, Tire Rack says they're good to use on the Lightning.

@Pioneer74 I realize load is always an issue with the weight of the truck, but how's the battery performance in the cold. We are in Az. and electric vehicles have it made out here until the temps reach 120 degrees.

I'm in SE Michigan. At 90% charge my realistic range over the winter was about 190 miles with my work commute. A typical back and forth from home is about 70% highway with speeds around 70 to 73 mph and the rest between 45 and 60.

I'm getting excited for summer. It's been getting into the lower 50's here lately and I've been seeing 2.0 to 2.1 kWh instead of the 1.7 to 1.8 I was getting overall.

I can answer for upstate NY winters. So far I have seen no cold weather power cuts in my ER Lariat, but I do get a range hit. In the winter and on the highway, I only get 220-230 miles of range on the stock tires. Still perfectly usable for everything I want to do.

That said, I am actively looking for tires that will perform better in the snow, be usable year round, and without a huge range hit. I have a usual trip where I go 180 miles before my first charging stop. Most traditional A/T tires (i.e. KO2s) seem to have about a 20% range hit, which would make getting to that charging stop in the winter very dicey. Trying to find something like a severe snow (3PMS) rated all season or all weather, that handles the Lightning's load requirements, and only has a 10% or less range hit.

Brake caliper clearance is critical for 17". I was told not to go lower than 18" but there was someone who got an aftermarket alloy 17 to fit.

I looked on the site and they list a lot of rims that might fit at 17. I will not be testing the theory myself but we'd love to hear if it works!

Method Racing and Brink have wheels that definitely fit; people on this forum are running them now. That said, there's a very limited selection.

I have 17x8.5 +6et icon alloys that fit just fine

Oh ya, there are tons on this site that have. The clearance could be tight with the big brakes, smaller rocks could get jammed. Each install will be different.

They look like a good option on the Pro with 18" wheels, but in 20" you either have to drop the weight rating to 115 or go up to the LT tires that weight 55lbs each!
