I think that EV price fluctuations will become the norm and we won’t like it.
- Technology particularly battery tech may render a nearly new vehicle obsolete before it’s direct replacement can be produced.
- Range anxiety. Any new truck that is announced with more claimed range than current offerings will depress values of existing trucks if the prices are comparable.
- Charging capacity. If new trucks offer improved charging abilities (including NACS),existing platforms will depress
- New competition. Today there only 3 manufacturers selling EV trucks. Each manufacturer that adds an EV truck will increase competition.
Should we be surprised that the current Lighting is already lagging in three of the areas above. Ford needs to get buyers today for an already “outdated” model.
Just because the current Lighting is “outdated” doesn’t mean that it’s not a great truck. I think we’re still getting a good value.
