There's going to be 100,000 people canceling this week and Teslas gonna have to dole out $10,000,000 . That might be small change but it's not going to make the analysts too happy either. There's just no way they can sell 250,000 per year at that price point and the cheaper RWD that's a late arrival may never arrive. People be flipping out on the cyber truck Forum.

Also, Some people understand that the 2019 announced $40k wasnt going to happen. Just like it virtually never happened for the lightning.

BTW... T's & P's to all the people on here still thinking there is going to be a $40k electric truck ever available. You could hold out for GM... I certainly would not bet on it. I will be driving around in my Lightning snickering.

2024's $65k is 2019's $40k. Face the facts.

With an estimated 2 million reservations, all it takes is 5% of people to cancel to equal 100,000. The buzz has worn off the electric truck to some degree.

These threads are fun - and I'll be the first to admit I even like a good argument at times. However I think the key here is that there is likely a whole new set of people that will buy the Cybertruck that wouldn't have previously purchased a truck. There will also be a large number of Big 3 truck drivers that will buy it. Will it put a dent in those Big 3? Maybe, Maybe not. Will it get their attention - it already has and will continue to do so, likely one of the main reasons we have the Lightning.

So an overview - die hard brand truck drivers - 99% will just keep on driving their brand. See picture below from Thanksgiving for reference. My brother won't have anything but a Ford. He farms - cattle and hay and has a construction business. I thought this was a pretty good pic showing the diversity of trucks and their uses. All are his but 2, one is mine and one is my nephews. He is a loyalist.

Truly however - the real majority of truck buyers aren't as brand loyal. I've really liked Ford, but I liked the 3 GM trucks I drove before the 2 Fords. I don't need a truck. I just went 4 years with two Model 3's in the garage. I rented a Home Depot truck one time to get some yard furniture home during that time. 90% of truck owners likely fit that bill.

To say the least, there is a huge market for the Cybertruck - and many of the buyes likely never considered a truck before. There are also many drivers that want the truck for its specs, it's fast, it has a 6 ft enclosed bed. It still has a small frunk. It has power outlets in the back. It has a killer stereo 15 speakers, 2 amps, 2 subs - that will blow Ford/B&O out of the water. It has 17" of clearance. It has Air Suspension, which many expected out of the Lightning. Most of all it has Tesla technology in it. It doesn't have a pouch battery that will get you the red ring of death half way through a trip. It has backup home power integration built in - it looks like out of the box without another $10K and years of frustration trying to get it to work (there is likely more to this as the home panel will likely need a back feed switch at a minimum). However it's Tesla and it will work. And if you go for the middle model - all at the same price as a Lariat.

So this truck isn't for everyone, but it will put others on notice and Tesla will sell every one of them they can make for many years to come. There is nothing like good competition and it will only make Ford's product better too.

Highly doubt it will dent normal Detroit 3 truck buyers, it's not a full size crew cab, which is what the vast vast majority of Pickup trucks sold in USA are. That is their biggest miss (other than controversial asthetic) to get normal truck buyers.

We will see how big the market is. Reservations at $100 dont mean anything. Ford is learning that the hard way. I agree, most will not have been previous truck buyers, see my comments above.

100% agree, I love seeing innovative competition. Good for (realistic) consumers. I like Tesla, I hope it's successful and I would love to get behind the wheel for a test drive at some point. I have zero interest in buying one. I have a family of 5, I need a full size crew cab or a minivan.... .

A bunch of Elon worshipers / Shermans (cartoon reference) will buy the "truck" and within 30 days will have major issues. They'll also discover that trucks are not cars, and that they can't park them. And they'll complain that the stainless steel spots, and that they cost a lot to cover in PPF, and it doesn't look great that way.

Within 60 days, so many will have cancelled that Mr. Peabody / Elon will have to shut Twitter to handle the cash outpouring. Of course he'll say "GFY" to those cancelled orders also, because that works so well.

I think Elon is pricing the cybertruck as low or lower than he can. I think it costs alot more to make than he's really letting on. He's acknowledged it wont be profitable for the first year to 18 months. I think he's more likely to raise the price next year than lower it which will widen the gap. Ford sort of has an excuse for taking a loss, they're figuring out this all electric thing. Elon doesn't have that excuse. Tesla is the master of efficient electric car building and the cybertruck is a monster to build and may not get that much easier.

I like and appreciate different views. I know ours don't align most of the time, but they do on occasion. Elon can be a crazy man - I just appreciate someone stepping outside the corporate norm.

It’s like rooting for your sports team. Tesla Stans are saying it’ll take over the truck market like the Model 3 and Y have taken over and then those of us who say it won’t work in the truck market.

We won’t know anything for years anyways. But the arguments are fun.

Nissan Trucks are assembled in Mississippi and Toyota trucks are assembled in Texas. They are just as American as most Ford Vehicles.

While I'm happy we have Americans employed at these companies, I don't know if we can say "just as American."

Part of why I bought my Tesla is it was the most American car you could purchase, based on where its parts were made and where it was put together. A lot of people don't care, which is fine by me, but I have an affinity to American brands.

Knowing where my Lightning was built AND it is an American company, also meant a lot to me.
