You are correct and wrong at the same time. Ford is 100% ready, They could have bought and shipped MagicDock adapters a year ago and let people use the Tesla app until FordPass integration was ironed out. They didn't because they are at the 100% mercy of Elon. Elon or any other advisor to Tesla could decide at any time to add chargers to the "charge your non-Tesla" group, They could also see some results they don't like and pull the chargers back out. Nobody in the public knows the details of any agreements that were made or Tesla's care to honor them. There is already massive overcrowding of SCs in Texas, CA, and other states. They will very likely never make those open. Additionally, there are billions of dollars being spent this very second on CCS sites and by the end of this year they will eclipse superchargers in many areas. They're also exist the possibility that Ford and Tesla are watching how everything is playing out and actively deciding to delay. Nobody knows and nobody should get their hopes up.
You're not correct.

Ford doesn't want to implement this until they are 100% integrated with FordPass. They do NOT want people using Magic Docks.

No adapter will work TODAY.

No adapter is guaranteed to work TOMORROW. Tesla has to allow them to work. Don't buy anything without a return policy if you can't use it.
THANK YOU FOR GETTING BACK TO ME , NO I'M GOING TO WAIT UNTIL THEY SAY IT WILL WORK ! BUT THAT WILL BE GREAT I WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT CHARGING MY TRUCK WITH ALL THE TESLA CHARGING STATIONS !

When I said MagicDock I meant the adapter everyone is up in arms over. It's essentially the exact same thing as the MagicDock adapter currently being use by Tesla with a different locking mechanism and different labeling. If Ford tries to roll this out 100% integrated with FordPass and not allow people to use the Tesla app "Charge your non-Tesla" option, it's going to be a giant cluster F, mark my words. Ford Pass sucks because Ford has shitty software engineers. This is part of why I think we are seeing delay with no action on MagicDock. Ford and Tesla can't figure out how to allow the adapters to be used without allowing everyone (other brands) to do the same all at once. And Tesla doesn't want all the headache of dozens of manufacturers calling in saying, I'm stuck, I'm stranded, I can't charge, what's going on. I have the adapter, I've seen people say it works, bla, blaa, blaaa. In fact I know people with Bolts, ID4s, etc who are already buying the adapters just like everyone on here. Elon is scared to death that if they open up all the SCs they will piss off all their own followers. Tesla owners don't want this, I know several of them, and Elon doesn't want all of them to be mad at him, I guarantee you we will see a slow and incremental rollout of the "Charge your non-Tesla". This will cause even more confusion than we're seeing on the forums right now b/c people will be posting about it being "opened up", then people will stop at their local SC's they've know about forever and won't be able to charge and be making posts like, "I thought they were open, stopped at X with my AtoZ adapter and can't charge, what do I do". I knew we were in trouble when they just opened up a brand new 24 station SC in Tulsa and none of them have the MagicDock. There is absolutely zero reason for them to not make at least a few of the chargers MagicDock capable, this was intentional, they are not planning to open these up to everyone.

It is sorta cute to think that Tesla is worried about non-Tesla vehicles clogging up the charging stations. They do need a time limit for the Bolts but otherwise realize that we are in the "classic collector car" territory compared to Tesla. I have probably seen well over 100 Model Y's (are those the ones that look like guppies?) for every Lightning that I have seen on the road. I see a few more siblings to my Kia EV6, but still the ratio is no better than 20:1.

I'm kind of an EV geek so I notice most of the models that drive by. Every trip now, even short ones, I'm going to see at least 3 Teslas. They almost don't "count" for my "count the EV game" that my wife and I have.

I ordered one, the likelihood of Ford sending one ... let's just say I won't be checking my underwear for monkeys ..

https://a2zevshop.com/products/nacs-ccs1

BTW, these guys will start shipping end of Feb and take returns for 2 weeks which should be enought time to see what Ford will do. If, by some miracle, I do have pants full of monkeys, I can just return it.
Mine will arrive from a2z Tuesday

Simple math, Ford sold 24,000 Lightning last yr and 15,000 in 2022 so even if 60k adapter even exist in the world and Ford could get them at $100 each, they're no going to spend $4 million plus. Next, even if they had enough Magic docks made, there have only been less the 100 installed ... Long story there is a huge gap betwwen what they Should do and what they Can do and $200 bridges that gap. Not to mention that changing the software to upgrade the charges probably will take a week

There are currently 48 Magic Dock locations. Most Tesla locations have around 10 chargers, so 100 isn't remotely close to the number of Magic Docks installed.

There will be 3,500 Magic Docks installed by year end.

So they will be installing 10 a day for the next 350 days ... not be a jerk but "show me" :)

It appears that some of the newest installations come with Magic Dock already attached.

I have zero expectation that the Ford adapter will be free. I also have no inside knowledge on how Telsa plans installations. Last Feb that also committed to doubling the number of SuperChargers by end of 2024. That's huge. Will they do it? No idea.

I was simply stating that your "100" was off by hundreds.

Got it, I was using the 100 as a "if they can't do 100 in 3 months, how can they do 3500 by the end of the year" kinda thing .... hence spending $200 to have access to a larger set pool of chargers to use

Thanks!!

Keep in mind that the 3,500 by end of 2024 compares to the 15,000 that we will get access to by Spring. In other words, we'll have access to over 4 times the number of chargers, via our own adapter, as compared to Magic Docks. And, by the end of 2024, we'll have access to 18,500 SuperChargers, plus all the new SuperChargers that are installed between Spring and end of year.

Let's assume Tesla installs 4 new locations a month, times 11 months, and each has 10 chargers. That's another 440. So, by end of 2024, there should be a total of around 19,000 Superchargers, or about 1,900 locations, versus 45 today (in the US). That is a huge increase.

As much as I'm not a big fan Elon Musk fan, having broad access to charging is key to making EV adoption more mainstream.

None of this makes sense to me. It's simple math that they wouldn't spend $4 million?

I don't think any of us were in the room when these decisions are made, and I don't pretend to know what they're willing to spend on what.
