What's the difference between "Superchargers Open to other EVs" vs. "Superchargers Open to NACS". I cannot find a clear explanation on the Tesla site, on Google Search, or in this forum. Nearly all of the SC's in New England are listed as, "Superchargers Open to NACS". But the the one in Rockland Maine is listed as, "Superchargers Open to other EVs". I care because my trip to Camden Maine to visit family on Monday will be a disaster if the Rockiland Maine SC does not work with the adapter Ford provide.

Open to Other EVs means - "we provide the adapter" . I.E. Magic Dock
Open to NACs means - "you must have an NACS port". That's the adapter providing that.

Not all Superchargers are open to non-Tesla. If you plug in your vehicle model into the Tesla app under the section "Charge Your Other EV", it will show you chargers available to non-Tesla's. Same with ABRP, you can adjust your settings to show only chargers that allow non-Tesla's with an adapter.

It's good to check these, as I've never had an issue arriving to a Tesla charger when checking them against these apps. I had one time towards the beginning where I assumed I had access to a well placed Tesla charger, and found I didn't. That was on me, and one of the few times I arrived at my destination sweating bullets, lol

Magic Dock, use the Tesla app to activate the session.
@TaxmanHog Thanks again. BTW, I was able to use the one in Lynn MA (which has the inbuilt adapter; I just didn't see it, nor did I know how to activate it) with my Ford adapter and I did NOT have to use the Tesla app. I just got lucky!

That station (Lynnfield Rt-1) might have the P&C communications upgrade as well as the Magic Dock equipment, like the new Foxboro site on RT-140

I'll find out Tuesday what's the story with the one in Rockland Maine. Either way, with the info you've provided, I am now confident that I'll be able to use it: Either with the adaptor they provide (and the Tesla software) of with the Ford adaptor (and either the Ford software or the Tesla software.) Thanks again for all you knowledge on this (and other Lightning matters.)

another aspect to consider:

Just because you have a Supercharger that is 'Other EV compatible', and they provide the adapter within the MagicBox, you have to have an ACCOUNT with Tesla to start and pay for charging. We all can use these, but it requires a different method...

'NACS compatible' is for only those of US, Ford and Rivian(and maybe GM for now), who can use OUR own adapter, and simply PLUG - N - CHARGE, with no requirement to access or use the Tesla app, or pay thru Tesla: You can do it ALL thru your Ford BlueOval Plug-N-Charge compatibility with Tesla: and FORD bills you.

I have done Superchargers EXCLUSIVELY for several months, and have NEVER had to use the Tesla App, or have an account with them: and, it works perfectly. Plug-N-Charge has never been a better CASE USE than for us, in these situations. I have not used a single 'other charger provider' like EA or Chargepoint or EVgo, or ANYONE, in months. I really don't even THINK about them anymore. What a turn-a-round.

There are advantages to using the Tesla app and being a frequent charging customer using the membership pricing plan, using their app is required to enjoy those discounts, otherwise using the Blue Oval Charging network connection via Plug & Charge is easy & simple at a higher toll rate.

I think the only category that needs to be excluded from Lightning roadtrip planning (assuming you have an adapter) is Gen 2 Superchargers, which are Tesla-only. They show up in the Tesla app, but not in Plugshare (with correct settings) or Fordpass.

There is a Tesla supercharger rooftop charger 1 mile from me with 40 chargers. Problem is it's $.70 a kwh compared to $.23 kwh at home averaging 9kwh 40amp charger.

To get a slightly better rate, I would have to charge after midnight. Of course leaving it plugged in more than several minutes once compleated cost big money too.

What are some of the rates people are paying at these superchargers. I'm located in Los Angeles.

That depends on location.

The closest location to our house has 16 Tesla Super Chargers and 4EA chargers. 2 of the 4 EA chargers have been dead for 6 months now

as far as cost goes at this location;
30 cents/kwh to charge our Tesla on the Tesla Super Charger
45 cents/kwh to charge our Lightning on Super Charger using Tesla app
50 cents/kwh to charge our Lightning on Super Charger using Ford Plug and Charge
57 cents/kwh to charge our Lightning using the EA Charger when it works.
