Wheel Offsets - I Need Help Understanding / Fact Checking

I being told the OEM offset of the lighting is +40. The wheel I had picked out was a 0 offset. I was told a 0 would push the wheel out 2 in. And that I should search for nothing more aggressive than a +20 since I'm not doing a level or a lift.

Can anyone confirm that this information is correct when I'm being told.

I had one shop tell me the zero will push out my wheel about an inch and another shop tell me it'll push it out 2 in with drivability issues.

If it's the exact same width of wheel and tire, then a 0 offset would have the outside edge 40 mm farther out than stock, or 1.575".

If it's a wider wheel/tire, then 0 offset would push the outside edge out further. Could be 2". If it's a narrower wheel/tire, then 0 offset would push it out less. Could be 1". So the two shops could both have been giving you more or less correct information if they were talking about a specific wheel/tire combo that was a different width.

My goal is for appearance before functionality. I wanted some extra poke, a stylish tire that was quiet on the road as much as a AT can be. I was planning on a 285/70/18. OEM is 275/60/20. I was going at a 18x9. The wheels I loved are 0 offset. Other wheels that are just ok are from +10,+18 and +20. I don't want to level or lift it.

The offset of the Lightning 20" wheels is +44mm, not +40mm.

So would a 285/70/18 on a 18x9 +10 off set with no level be an issue?

I upgraded my wheels to a 20x9 with +20 offset, and tires are 285/60r20. There is a slight poke (would have preferred none), but not enough too make me dislike it. As far as fitment it seems to be fine - haven't noticed any rubbing, but it is definitely CLOSE in that front wheel well, especially at a full steer.

I went with a +10 offset, and dropped the 285 for a 275/70/18. If I wanted the 285 I would have had to drop the 70, but then with the 18's the truck would have sat lower. Hopefully getting it all done Wednesday.
