The topic of a larger capacity LVB has come up before. Several here suggest it will not work properly because the LVB has that little BMS to monitor state of charge. IF the LVB BMS is monitoring amps out vs amps in, and knows what that small LVB capacity is supposed to be, that may be a problem. Really depends how Ford programmed all that and I don't think anyone here knows for sure. Just speculation as far as I know.

If you try it, please do let us know how it goes.
I would think the factor is programmable!!
Any FORSCAN experts know of the coding to adjust this?

A bad BMS will completely FU the truck with ghost problems appearing in weird states impacting interface, screen, music, OTA updates, proximity sensors, etc. Somewhat like a bad condenser messing with spark ignition. An inexpensive part messing with you. Once the BMS was replaced January ’24 on our April ‘23 ER Lariat build.. all the ghost issues disappeared.

That would be nice if someone can come up with that solution. It would also be nice if it just worked off of voltage... like every vehicle on the plant has since the dawn of the battery.

I have a Victron BMS for my Dakota Lithium 12v LFP batteries in my race trailer, it's customizable for a variety of factors based on the battery composition & capacity, I'd assume Ford has set Lightning LVB BMS parameters for the H3 spec's.

How is this not just actual negligence on Ford's software dev team?? There's 130kwh of power in the HVB. There's a DC-DC converter to keep the LVB charged. Battery low, hmmm, maybe now would be a good time to turn the DC-DC on and recharge?? NAH. Let's let it die and just throw senseless error codes, that sounds cool.
Indeed.
And the chose 40% LV battery SOC - AGM's should never go below 50% for longevity.

The customer service people told me to drive around for an hour to get the LV battery SOC up - did no good.

Have to hook it up to the FCSP and set to charge to 90% for several hours (overnight) to get it up enough for updates the next day.

Haven't had any low LV battery warnings though, so far, knock on wood,

I’m curious what year/build date is yours? That warning notice makes complete sense we’ve never gotten one 12v warning. This truck is 03/23 build date.
Mine is 4/22 build date.

If you have connected your charger up to the wrong points, you need to do the BMS reset procedure to reset the learned values you messed up.

Installing a higher amp hour battery like the Die Hard sounds like a good idea but if the BMS is configured for the 36 amp hr battery we have now the charging performance might be a bit off for the larger capacity battery.

All of my 12V battery issues disappeared after I got the BMS sensor replaced. My battery now shows 90-100% most of the time when I check it.

Here's the one I was considering...before the BMS sensor replacement fixed my problems:

Curious data point, parked one of our Lightnings last night and saw it needed an update so I triggered it manually so it would be done before next shift uses it (13 minutes unusable - entertainment screen update). And this morning... an email that truck 12v was dead last night.

This truck had the BMS recall done in the spring so it should not be having that issue.
