Help needed. Carplay route planning is driving me crazy! Several questions. Any help is appreciated

1: I am traveling from point A to point B and let’s say Im going home and it is 100 miles. I have enough of a charge to go that distance, but would arrive at destination with low charge. Carplay/Apple Maps always adds a charging stop. - even rerouting me significantly out of my way to charge. i dont want to charge until i get home
==How do stop this? Ive been told there is a setting somewhere that is telling the system that I want to arrive with a certain SOC, akin to A Better Route Planner.
==I cannot find this setting anywhere. Does anyone know how to correct this?

2: The above issue leads me to use Fords navigation, which brings up a different issue When driving it will not allow me to search for a charger. I get the message this is disabled while driving. Do I have to stop along the road to find a charger or can this setting be disabled?

3: Finally, the Ford Pass app on my iPhone will show chargers along my route. I actually think the app is better than the onboard software
==My question - when choosing a charging location in the Ford Pass app it opens the route in Apple maps. Will the truck precondition or does that only happen in the native navigation in the Lightning?
Thank you!

I use Google Maps (or WAZE) on my iPhone through carplay, and it currently doesn't know you're driving an EV, so none of the above issues. I am perfectly capable of deciding if I need to charge on the way home.
If you must use AppleMaps, I think you can select a different vehicle, or no specific vehicle, but I'm happy only using it when I need charger info.
I know this is not a complete answer, but hope it helps at least a little.

I agree 100%. I use CarPlay and Waze (because it's the best navigation app, in particular because it warns of accidents, police, fog, etc.). And I figure out on my own when and where I need to charge.

I guess what do you think is the minimum SOC CarPlay should allow before adding a stop? I just routed a trip to Morgan hill that has me arriving with 9% SOC, and that’s a little beyond my comfort zone. If you’re looking for something lower than that, I don’t think Apple would recommend (as these vehicles have been known to crap out at 5% and lower. That said I don’t like Apples charging suggestions as a rule, I use Tesla or PlugShare for planning and then send for directions to CarPlay for charging stops.

None of the nav systems seems entirely ready to help one make real-time or near-real-time decisions about charging. I combine PlugShare or EA info with my own level of tolerance for low SOC, and estimated bio break cadence for dog and driver, before heading out on any long trip and make a general plan. I assume that AI will at some point provide a reliable tool, but we aren’t there yet, apparently. I’d love to be corrected, if I’m wrong.

Nope, you're right.

I only use WAZE, no issues with this. I don't see any evidence of preconditioning when I pick a charge location in WAZE.

The truck only preconditions for charging if you set a charge destination in the Ford nav. Apple Maps, Waze, etc.. can route for charging, but don’t initiate the truck to precondition for it. Yet.

I have not had issues with Apple Maps trying to route me to a charge stop unless I would arrive at my destination at about 10% or less. Which I would need to be extremely comfortable with my drive to commit to that. My issue with Apple Maps and Waze and such right now is they still don’t have proper routing for Tesla chargers and other newer charging providers. Google Maps with Android Auto is just now incorporating Tesla chargers and I think they may be showing on their nav…

Coming from the Tesla side of things I knew we were always a bit spoiled in terms of navigating to chargers…. I never held ABRP and some of the other options out there in very high regard. But I recently had a rental of a KIA Niro EV and ABRP was a life saver! The built in navigation in the KIA was so unbelievably bad…. Finding charging with it was hopeless, not to mention it was just bad all around. Had to use ABRP and Waze on my phone propped in the cup holder. I think the car supports CarPlay/ AA, but being a rental it seemed they had a lot of features disabled.

I’m finding the Lightning integration with CarPlay to be quite good overall, but they need additional charger routing and better functionality to choose skipping charging stops or selecting between a couple options, which we have in the Tesla world. On the flip side, Tesla could do much better at showing non-Tesla charging options, but up until recently there wasn’t much need. And if there is no charge options on the nav, then it’s time to pull up plugshare and hope for the best. which is an adventure in itself…. Usually we pre-plan our road trips and charge stops, but sometimes plans change and you just wing it. Somehow I’ve never stranded myself, but I’ve pulled up to a couple chargers at < 5% a few times In the earlier Tesla days. …And the day I bought my Lightning and road-tripped it from DesMoines to Denver. But that was an issue with EA chargers that weekend.

On longer drives, I use ABRP before I start moving. I’ll plug in the address into Waze whether is a charger or my final destination. Best option for now imho.
