For all those potential shoppers out there wondering if this truck is for them, I’d like to add my 0.02.

I own a 24 Lariat and live in the frigid state of MN but in the metro area which is lots of sprawl.

I run heated seats and heated steering wheel always with cabin temp at 72F. At most my commutes will hit 120 miles per day but with traffic since I’m in the suburbs, that’s typically a 45 mph average. If you calculate the MPH average for my trip today, it’s 28 because it’s very slick out today on the roads. Quite frankly anyone doing 70mph when it’s sub freezing is being pretty risky.

So on this blustery cold day of 18F, here’s my data with preconditioning to start the day off. I have a home charger and I consider that a prerequisite for EV ownership. If charged to 90% per Ford recommendations, this gives me a range of about 210.

24 is ER only on Lariat, isn't it?
Probably, BUT I'm trying to get folks to properly document their model year & trim with battery configuration in profiles or signatures, to make useful helpful tip threads like this has been intended to make it clear to new and veteran members without digging and asking.

This issue can be compounded by bad data on the motherships own sales platform , oyyyyyy

What is your opinion of the noise level when it's working hard and you're in traffic or sitting still?
It is very loud when outside the vehicle. Can’t hear anything major once inside- just seems like a faint white noise. No vibrations.

Wow, that heat pump has a huge impact. Finally some real world data. I was losing roughly 25% range when I had mine and it got cold outside.

Wow, that heat pump has a huge impact.
There are so many variables... unless and until we see a test with two trucks driving the exact same road at the exact same time, to rule out "minor" wind/speed/temperature variations that actually have a major effect on efficiency, I don't know if we can draw any solid conclusions.

The heat pump *should* be a little better in good conditions, i.e. "not too cold", but even the resistive heater only draws a few kW steady state so there's not all that much room for improvement. I hope someone does a properly controlled test at some point; I'd like to know if I'm wrong.

Anyone have a 2023 in MN and about thirty minutes to kill?
Make sure to reset a trip meter. It will show energy breakout by climate, driving, etc.

Guys this is not complicated and everyone is making complicated. In heating mode, it's just the air conditioner running backwards. Expect the same noise and power use as your air conditioning on a hot summer day. Expect additional power use when it cold enough to require the PTC heater for additional heating.

There are sooooo many variables in the HVAC settings and automations. Trying to compare or determine exactly how it will perform is a waste of time and braincells.

It will be significantly better than without a heat pump. Carry on.

Finally! Some conversation on the '24 models with the heat pump. Hoping some of the pros do some video comparisons this winter in apples to apples scenarios.

I have a 2024 Flash trim, and I live in Southeast Florida. It's been chilly but not cold - not sure my data will be as important. I will say that I commute 100 miles each day, same route. This past week the average temp on the way to work was 50 degrees fahrenheit. At 70 mph with BC on the trip averages 2.4 m/kwh. HVAC on at 72 degrees.

The same trip earlier in the Fall and even summer when outside temps were 80 - 90 degrees there is NO difference. Still the same 2.3 - 2.5 m/kwh.

So for me, im seeing no less efficiency between 90 degrees and 50 degrees.

On the 40-50 degree mornings when I first start the vehicle I do hear for the first couple of minutes what I believe to be the heat pump. It's a higher pitch whirring sound under the front area of the truck. It sounds similar to the noise you hear when fast charging in hot conditions. It's not as noticeable in the cabin esp if any radio is on. After about 3 - 5 mins it shuts off.
