The Executive Order on the 21st January halted funding under the 2021 Infrastructure Act and specifically targets NEVI funding. I was really looking forward to the sea change in charging infrastructure that NEVI was going to provide, now it looks like we are going to have to wait until the next administration to see significant growth in charging infrastructure. Thank god I got my Tesla adapter.

PS; I wouldn’t be surprised to see the NEVI funding diverted to building a border wall.

I'm not sure it was ever alive TBH, at least in Texas. Of the 91 sites that were funded in Texas for Phase 1, only 3 are open (two are Tesla) and a handful under construction.

Since that grant money has already been awarded to the state and contracts awarded to dozens of applicants, I presume it can't be clawed back. If they build those 91, it will be a good improvement.

Agree, My guess is all the Phase 1 awards of each state will go through as I believe that money has been dispersed to the States. We only have 3 installs done so far in Wisconsin out of 53 sites awarded in Phase 1. I surmise there is there are many folks that are in a bit of regret that this bureaucratic bloated mess of a program should have been held accountable to move a little faster during the previous administration.

The law passed by Congress must be executed. The President has limited authority to pause, not stop funding as passed by Congress. It's hard to say if this is a lawful order and I don't think it really matters.

The current Congress's top priority is making the current tax law permanent and reducing taxes as much as possible. They want to eliminate any spending they can to pay for at least some of the tax cuts and EV infrastructure is a lot easier to eliminate than Medicare. If they can cut EV spending to zero to offset tax cuts they are going to do it.

No kidding, while they are at it, build a wall on the Northern board so they can keep the immigrants from fleeing to Canada

The new administration plans (it's in project 2025) to push the limited authority to the max and only the courts can force compliance with the law.

Unfortunately I agree with your assessment of the future of EV infrastructure in the next two years. Maybe after the mid-terms a new congress will get back on track.
