Had my recall done in October 2023 and needed to pay out of pocket for new replacement last week because my truck was out of warranty. Supposedly 2 year part warranty did not apply to recalled replacement bar because that was repaired free of charge. Filed NHTSA complaint
Interested in knowing the replacement cost as well.

That absolutely sucks and is BS. Thanks for filing the NHTSA complaint.

Do you mind sharing what the cost was?

I assume you did not purchase an extended warranty? I only ask because I have one and am curious if would cover this or not if I run into needing it replaced again outside of warranty.
The Ford Extra Care plans have an extra you can purchase called “Light coverage”, or something like that. It was an extra $70. I don’t know the details of what that actually covers or if it can be added later.

The extended service plan has this in the "What is not covered" section 7.
"o) Electrical failures on incandescent bulbs, halogen bulbs, High Intensity Discharge (HID) and LED lamp assemblies (except when Interior/Exterior Lighting Option is purchased [or not shown as deleted]);

p) Service adjustments and cleaning/lubricating procedures, fixed (non-moving) body parts, bumpers, glass, moldings, ornamentation, paint, rust, sheet metal, structural underbody framework, side and rear view mirrors (glass and housing), rattles/ squeaks/ wind noise/ odors/ water leaks, tires, tune-ups, wheel balancing, wheel alignment, fogging/moisture of lamp assemblies, weather strips, wheels, wheel studs, wheel covers, convertible top and bow, fabric, liners, fasteners, carpets, dash pad, knobs, trim, upholstery, physical damage or cosmetic issues;"

So 3yr warranty might have these as "not covered" as well? Hard to believe that moisture in a lamp assembly would not be covered, whether already replaced once by warranty or not, @Ford Motor Company , especially if a defective safety part.

I have the Premium Care EV warranty. Chat GPT says I should be good.

I do not know if I would trust the analysis of AI.

Mr. Chat Bot says you should be covered because of an electrical issue. The issue is not really an electrical issue. The water leakage into the light is causing an electrical issue and water leakage is excluded from coverage.

It would be interesting to see if any one had their light covered by the ESP.

Strange. I distinctly remember paying extra for lighting coverage. There was no “delete” option.

The exclusions list reads more like what makes an entire car list. lol

I dont really think getting a lawyer involved at this point is warranted. A cursory AI review is. When it comes to interpretation of a document like this that would truly be the only recourse if Ford doesnt cover it.

Here is "Mr Chatbots" retort. I understand, take it for what it is worth, but it does a better job combing through crap like this than I do.

This is the reply I received from ford after multiple emails and telephone calls:

Thank you for bringing your concern to our attention.

We’ve reviewed the situation, including your past recall repair and the current issue with the rear tailgate lamp. At this time, the concern has been reviewed through our warranty channels and unfortunately does not fall under an active warranty or recall.

We understand this may be frustrating, and while we can’t authorize coverage unless the condition is deemed warrantable, you're welcome to return to the dealer for further inspection in case any new findings arise. If anything changes, the dealer can submit a new claim for review.

Please let us know if you have any questions or need assistance with next steps. We would still like to offer you a free extended service plan no charge
My 2022 lightning platinum ( my sixth Ford truck) will probably be my last. If they won’t fix an important safety feature what else are they failing at

From some of the things I’m seeing on this forum as well as the Mach-E forum, I suspect that Ford is trying to lower their outrageously high warranty claim rate by denying things that used to get approved. Just speculation on my part.
