Looking for some help from the Forum with a charging issue.

I have a '23 XLT SR that I have charged at home with my Ford Connected Charge Station at 48A on a 60A breaker, professionally installed.

I'm currently at 36,500 miles and have not had an issue with the charger.

I charged earlier today for 1 hour and 9 minutes and received 12kWh of energy added.

After a short drive, I came back to charge more, and charging fails.

When I plug in the J1772 plug into my truck, my truck clicks and the 60A breaker trips.

I tried using my Ford Mobile charger on a 110V outlet and it does not trip the breaker, but results in a charge fault.

The message in Ford Pass is "Please check charger for power. Try another stall or contact charge provider."

Any ideas on things to try? I was going to disconnect the 12V negative terminal as a reboot, but that's really just a Hail Mary. I don't have any great ideas at this point other than going to the dealership tomorrow.

There could be a failure in the on board charge controller in the truck.

Try a commercial level-2 charger in town to see if that also fails.

Ok. I will try that next. Carscanner looks good. 12V battery at 14.35V.

I will try a DC fast charger.

DC fast charging is a different set of electronics. If this was a Kia I would say that your ICCU was fried, probably the onboard charger for Ford. Tripping the breaker is a bad sign - the dealership probably has a slow charger that you can try out.

On the odd chance, look for water in the port Or anywhere that it should not be.

I’m successfully DC fast charging at a Tesla supercharger with CCS plugs built in using plug & charge. Not using my NACS adapter.

I’m reading the Electrical Vehicle Component Coverage Warranty to try to understand the components. See attached.

Does this make y’all think it’s the “on-board charger” but not the “DC/DC converter.”

I think it’s dealership time.

It is badly written when it us up to the reader to figure out a logical meaning. I have an opinion, but I bet if a poll was taken, there would be a dozen logical understanding of that wording.

I really don't think I would count on the opinion of one dealer.

My opinion; eDrive = electric motor (not the gear box) ???

If you fail on the dealer or other level-2 charger, then it's likely the onboard charger.

I misread this post. I thought you were suggesting a DC fast charger (Level 3) to diagnose AC vs. DC. But I see now you were suggesting the Level 2 charger to diagnose the issue between my house and my truck.

I tried a commercial Level 2 charger from ChargeUp and it faulted as well.

I tried blowing compressed air into the charging port on the truck in case there was any water inside, but that did not work either.

I will note that the breaker does not always trip on my Level 2 charger at home. Sometimes, I can hear the charging station clicking as it tries to initiate a charge a couple of times before receiving the red charge circles on the truck next to the charge plug release.

I also hear a rapid click-click-click on the truck shortly after plugging in.

I have an appointment scheduled for Monday, and it may take days after that. But, I will report back after the repair in case it helps anyone else with similar symptoms.

Sounds like the onboard charger to me. This doesn't disable the truck since you can still DC charge. If it were me I'd try to minimize the time at the dealership by continuing to drive the truck until they have the necessary parts. Maybe parts availability is no longer an issue?

Popping breaker definitely a bad sign, I'd still cycle the 12v - nothing to lose but unfortunately I think your truck is getting a dealer vacation trip.

Did you flip breaker off & turn it back on?

Yes. I tried resetting the breaker several times. I also tried lowering the current of the ESVE to 6Amps.

Since the charging fault occurs on multiple Level 1 and Level 2 chargers, but not DCFCs, I will proceed as if it’s a failed on-board charger, which seems to be covered in the 8yr/100k battery and EV component warranty.
