I'm at Ford dealer for the 30,000 service and they are recommending a brake fluid flush for $177 and a AC flush for $320. I ask him if I didn't do these would it affect my warranty in any way and he says yes it can.
Has anyone done these at 30K and how can it be true that if I have a break problem or AC it will affect my warranty? Is this just dealer doing dealer things. 🤔

In the Lightning manual online, under Scheduled Maintenance. It directs me to log into the Ford website for service schedule.

For the 30,000 mile service, Ford says to expect:

  • Inspect the wheels and related components for abnormal noise, wear, looseness or drag.
  • Inspect cooling system level and strength
  • Inspect steering linkage, ball joints, suspension, tie-rod ends, drive shaft and U-joints. Lubricate if equipped with grease fittings.
  • Inspect brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, brake linings, hoses and parking brake.
  • Perform multi-point inspection.
  • Inspect half-shaft boots.
  • Rotate the tires, inspect tire wear and measure tread depth


Dealer doing dealer things to get money from you.

You should get that in writing and report it to Ford!

edit: You should report that to Ford/ BEV Team whether it is in writing or not!

I would ask them why they are recommending these services. Brake fluid can be tested using test strips or a test pen. In regards to an evac & recharge of the R1234yf… unless u have a leak or they can show where Ford recommends it, I wouldn’t trust them.

I've been puzzled by the brake system flush, requirement for our Ford Lightning, it's not listed early in the maintenance list in the app, 3 years x 36,000 miles seems reasonable.

On my Harley it is a listed requirement at 2 years or 24,000, the advanced ABS control system is sensitive to moisture collected in the brake fluid, it can enter the system through the reservoir bottle vented cap, over time atmospheric moisture collects in the fluid, eventually working its way into the ABS modulator potentially causing damage.

Properly flushing the system is highly recommended, HD technicians use their diagnostic computer to run the ABS system to allow flesh fluid to pass through, onward to each caliper and out of the bleeder ports for collection and disposal.

I'm not familiar with the AC flush requirements, but maybe it's prudent to do a pressure test, maybe go so far as an evacuation and measured replenishment to make sure the compressor(s) are working well and have the correct amount of working fluid in the system.

It's critical to the stable operation of the battery pack, though I could endure a hot cabin by rolling the windows down, keeping the battery pack stable isn't as easy.

Every three years for brake fluid based on the fluid manufacturer requirements.

No reason to do an AC flush unless your AC isn’t performing.

For a ac flush….. Just HUH you don’t service the ac or flush it unless you have an issue. It’s a sealed system.

If it's not required by Ford it won't affect your warranty. Even if you skip the inspections they would have a hard time denying a warranty claim, they would have to prove that the skipped inspections caused the failure. It doubt they could definitely prove that an inspection would have caught an imminent part failure before it failed.

Just go to Discount Tire for a free rotation and be done with it.

Nope, they will repair flats and rotate for anyone for free. They will balance for free only if you bought the tires there. I can confirm, I had a nail in a factory tire on my truck and they fixed and rotated for free.

It's a smart business decision. They get to sell you a tire if your flat can't be repaired and check for wear when they rotate to sell you a set if they are worn.
