A properly maintained gas engine will not smoke, even when at full throttle. An older (pre DEF) diesel will have soot in the exhaust on heavy throttle, however a newer truck should not unless they have defeated emissions control devices. If you see a fairly new truck spewing black clouds it is entirely intentional.
Agreed with the "Properly maintained" engines not smoking. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that do not properly maintain their vehicles.

I personally know 3 people that drive fairly new (less than 5 yrs old) and well maintained diesels with zero modifications, and they all have some soot in the exhaust when flooring the vehicle. Noticeably less than pre DEF engines, but there nonetheless.

I did have a guy pull up at a stop light and scream "hey buddy can your lightning do this???" and started smoking the rears on his Silverado. I gave him a dose of EV 0-45 MPH and at the next light he was laughing and gave a thumbs up. Echo everything else about people asking questions and generally being positive, especially if you pop the Frunk.

...And specifically illegal in many states now, yet a lot of people keep modding their trucks this way. Most diesel guys, at least those with sufficient mechanical knowledge, who care about good performance and all that won't be doing this to their trucks.

I own, or should say my business owns lots of trucks. From our perspective, coal rolling is the truck equivalent of an octopus or squid that inks itself as it swims away.

Tesla and other EV owners seem to be hyper-sensitive over it though. I've been coal-rolled in my F-350 way more than my Tesla. And it's usually some diesel mafia knucklehead trying to show me how cool he thinks his truck is. All I see is a moron that spent $25K making his truck 30% less fuel-efficient to gain 10 to 15 HP and now it smells like ass too.

Coal rollers belong to the same crowd that goes for the Carolina Squat or puts highly aggressive AT tires with no sidewalls on stupidly large wheels and buys spray mud in a can.

Diesels just do this anyway, nature of the beast to some degree. The DEF system works primarily by filtration and the exhaust fluid is both a detergent and a combustive reactant. It can't trap it all and has to let some bleed through or burp out depending on where it is in the exhaust cleaning cycle. DEF systems will usually allow a certain percentage of blow-by since they can't properly deal with the load under full pressure acceleration. While DEF systems greatly reduce free carbon and soot emissions, they're not exactly clean in and of themselves.

That's a thing????
I'll be right back, it's been raining and I need to can some mud.
Sadly yes. I don't think it's as popular as a few years ago. But a big thing with the Hummer and Jeep people on the west coast / LA/ SF, where they wanted the appearance of always taking their rigs off-road, even though it was a pavement princess.

Good: When I had the frunk open in a grocery store parking lot in Maine, a good Samaritan came over and asked if I needed a jump start (as he thought I was looking at my engine!)

Bad:,Vandilism: I had a door scratched (“keyed”) in the Brighton section of Boston; cost $1,200 to get it fixed.

Ford needs to get on it with enabling a security mode. The truck has the cameras. Enable recording.
I hear you!

Unfortunately, just because the Truck has cameras, it's not as simple as flipping a switch. The cameras are a very small portion of what's needed to have an always alert security system with recording

From a tech standpoint we're talking fresh, unique code (that has never existed within Ford's SYNC infrastructure), codecs are usually a nightmare as you have to balance processing, storage space/compression, and compatibility. I'm not even sure SYNC can support that type of accessible read/write. HDD/SSD/Flash storage is needed, this isn't something they are going to retrofit (only chance I see here is USB add-on storage...but think of that logistical compatibility nightmare). Not to mention, once you store video you have to have a new privacy policy, and new security in place. The app will need to be updated to support it...how's the current app treating everyone?

I highly highly doubt MY22 and MY23 Lightning's will ever see this feature. MY24 which should be a derivative of Android...that's when we might be able to see it.

I know I'm a Debbie Downer, but that is just how I see the reality of that requested feature.

We just completed a night market. This thing is just so incognito. Even left the frunk open for a good half an hr in front of a bunch of vendors and not a turn of a head. I gotta love the fact no one knows this is electric or unusual.

One of the guys just was curious about the new F150 as in it being a 2022 model year not so much as it's a lightning.

In my experience the only people that notice it as an EV are Tesla drivers and people that want one. The strangest thing to me is people (strangers) are constantly asking me what I paid for it. I was hoping that it wouldn’t stand out as a $80k-$100k vehicle, but I guess there’s a lot of stories out there about the ADMs and availability. I do love surprising the occasional supercar driver, though.

In my neck of the woods almost everyone knows what it is. Often times I come out of the store at there is someone taking a picture. Tons of people want one for sure..... ...not had any issues and I travel to the more colorful parts of small town America....

Only time I got coal rolled was in my Volt once many years ago. Strangely enough I was using the ICE when I got coal rolled, the incongruity of it all made me laugh so hard the coal roller rolled down his window and said 'u madd bro' or something similar. True story....

😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
