Tesla Model X
Our 2023 Model X has been a roller coaster and seriously considering trading it in for a Lightning Platinum.

What's the experience been like for those who moved over from a Model X? One major complaint that seems to come up is the infotainment complared to Tesla, and how it's rather slow. Is it that bad, especially coming from a Tesla? Also, how has range been on the Lightning compared to the Model X?

Lightning's efficiency and range being a very large vehicle, is very sensitive to speed.

I'm not a Tesla owner, but the few posts I recall from former owners lambasted the slowness of the Sync system UI, test drive a Lightning and tinker with it to get a grasp of what it's like and if you would accept it for what it is.

I have 3 Tesla’s, one of which my wife’s 2020 X, and a 24’ Platinum Lightning for 2 months. Infotainment hasn’t bothered me a bit. You only have YouTube however, if that matters to you. I would say the X is more efficient, maybe 5-10% better if I had to guess.

Which do you like to drive more? The X or the Lightning?

We have a long range Model Y and a Lightning. The Lightning seems to have slightly better real world range than the Tesla. I can get an honest 300 miles of range in the Lightning with mixed city/rural highway driving. I usually do 270-280ish on the Y even through its rated for 320. Either one is way more than enough for daily driving.

You won’t be able to get the same road trip performance as the X or Y. Primarily because the Lighting battery is 30% bigger and recharging peaks around 170kwh vs 250kwh on Teslas. Also since the Lightning is shaped like a brick it’s best to keep it at the speed limit on the interstate. The drop off is slightly less noticeable in a more aerodynamic Tesla. Our typical supercharger stop in the Y is around 10-20 minutes and the Lightning is 25-30 minutes. May or may not matter for you depending on how many long trips you take and how much of a hurry you are in.

Lighting infotainment definitely is not as responsive as the Teslas “iPad like” responsiveness. It doesn’t really bother me because I’m using CarPlay 99% of the time and the trucks touch screen is simply displaying that interface.

That said I’d still prefer the Lightning over the Y if both are in the driveway for me to choose. It’s smoother, quieter, comfortable seating setup, better visibility, more storage, fit and finish are awesome.
