I would always recommend leaving Plug & Charge enabled, as disabling Plug & Charge prevents use of the Public Charging app on the touchscreen as well. Leave Plug & Charge enabled, but activate in the app first if you wish to bypass it.

I personally do not find the Tesla Membership to be worth it, plus the risk of forgetting to cancel it (how most subscriptions make their money).
A few folks have reported difficulty in using plug and charge with the various memberships. Specifically that frequently PnC overrides the session and resulting in the higher pricing of non-memberships.

In one single charge I saved as much money as the membership. On the five subsequent charges for that one trip i saved much more than the membership price. I did end up paying for a second month due to failure to cancel. However here again having to use a Tesla charger once made up for it

Either way, be aware that encouraging disabling P&C does disable the Public Charging app as well, which some folks may value. I have not had an issue bypassing P&C when needed but I'm not saying others have or have not.

Weird. The Ford screen shows 46 kwh added, yet the Tesla app only shows 16.15 kwh billed. Looking at the date and time on each app, they are the same?

.59 cents a kwh is not that bad. I pay .27 with taxes on average at home. LA, Calif.

Don't question a gift. Maybe Tesla wants to sell you a CT. And it was just a tease.

Could’ve been a possibility that you still had some free charging left from Ford when you charged at the Tesla station and they only billed you for what was outside of the free charging balance

I leave plug n charge active but start the Tesla app while I wrestle with the adapter and short Tesla cord. iirc, I select the post number then plug in. It bypasses p n c and I get a cc charge from Tesla.

From those numbers charging in the Tesla app was the marked $.59 per kwh. Running the math and $32 for the 50kw charge would be $.65 per kwh, not unreasonable.
Don't forget that they charge tax on the charging. The Tesla session is only showing the cost of the power at $.59 and if you add tax, depending on the location, $.65/kWh loaded is just about spot on.

This is exactly what I do. I just did a roughly 1000 mile trip and used Tesla exclusively. Paid the 12.99 for the month but made
it up in the discounted rate at the charger.

at least in Texas, the rate is inclusive of tax.

What free charging? The only free charging we had was 250kwh for EA while activating through Ford... he charged through the Tesla app.

Thanks everyone for replies. It’s still weird to me. Only had the one charge to my credit card for taking in 16 kWh. I definitely charged more closely to what the ford app says. Maybe Tesla had a glitch or they are signing me up for the member discount and I don’t see it yet. I don’t know. Either way, definitely learned some stuff from the replies and much appreciated

No tax on that. The numbers were cost divided by kwh.

When I took my first road trip I charged at Electrify America. I had exhausted my 250 kW while on the trip and the balance of that Invoice was charged to my Creditcard Through FordPass.

I didn’t get any free credits from Tesla only EA. In the Tahoe area, I couldn’t find any EA chargers that didn’t have 10 people waiting in line. And the location was kind of crap, right in front of a busy store. The Teslas were much better located

I agree with you, wholeheartedly on Tesla’s stations being set up in better and more accessible areas

I haven't charged at Tesla yet as I'm still waiting on my free adapter. Plus I have level 2 at home. There is a huge Tesla charge station 1 mile from the house that literally has an entire roof top parking structure exclusively for Tesla super chargers. 44 / 250kwh chargers. .31 from 4-8am. .57 from 8am to 12am . .34 from 12am to 4am.
plenty of Tesla chargers in my daily travels.

That's what I'm getting at. If the Supercharger was billing $0.59/kWh pre-tax, once you add tax it would give you a higher effective cost per kWh.

This invoice from charging in Iowa came in with a whopping 16% tax (even though it claims only 9.6%). I was charged $0.31/kWh for the energy, but the effective rate was $0.36/kWh.
