Reading this forum, I think I am gonna be making my first payment on a truck I won’t see for a month or two….received the dreaded powertrain warning. Took it to Bob Tomes in DFW and then need a week to look at it and then who knows how long before it’s repaired. Very disheartening coming from a Tesla S.

Sucks that your dealer can't even check the code for a week. Don't panic though, could be anything from a sensor to a battery module.

Hey there. Could you send over a message with your VIN and estimated mileage? I would like to look into your powertrain concerns on my end.

It irks me a little that they don't give any priority to newly purchased vehicles. My truck faulted out the first day I owned it, and it spent a month in the shop. No rental, no loaner, no nothing. It seemed that once they had my money all the niceties went out the window.

They said I’ll get priority but that could be 24-48-72 hours without a car. And school is about to start and I’m a single dad.

They did a scan but were saying a tech needed to look at it. Which would be at least a week and then who knows around parts and actually fixing.

Send the generic lemon law template letter in to Ford. They will assign someone to your case, and in a worst case scenario where your possible fix drags out, you’ll be one step ahead in the lemon law process.

Based on the experiences I’ve read about and the one I went through, EV fixes get dragged out compared to ICE because of a lack of experienced techs, parts, or some other setback.

I learned my lesson. Going forward if I don’t get good vibes within 5 business days, I’m mailing the letter.

I would push for a loaner car.

Same for me, I have 3500 miles on my 23' Lariat ER and it has been throwing that code the last month especially after I unplug from a charging session. It then seems to reset and go away after the next drive. I finally scheduled a dealer vist in 2 weeks requesting a loaner. They said they would do same day diagnostics.

Tesla has done diagnostics over the air on my Model Y while I'm chatting with them on the app. Ford is so far behind.

Wait a minute. When did the loaners end? My '22 Mannequin threw the powertrain fault a year ago. Ford had contacted me telling me I needed a battery module replaced. This was about two weeks before the fault appeared. We were 1,200 miles from home. Ford covered all my expenses which were about 3k.

Is Ford no longer having the BEV team proactively monitor these trucks? If not, it appears they have just given up on their EVs.

I can't get a BEV loaner/reimbursement until Bob tomes diagnoses it apparently, which is a week away. Bob Tomes said they will try to get me into a loaner within 24/48/72 hours. That will be fine to bridge the gap to diagnosis, and then the long road of whatever it is to fix it.

So here's what's going on behind the scenes. Loaners are covered by your warranty, but a service tech has to look at your truck and diagnose the issue before the loaner will be approved. Even if it's obvious by the error codes. Dealerships like to keep their service tech busy at all times. so they always want a queue of work to be ready for the tech. So the advisor says "bring it in" looks at it for a couple seconds writes up what they see, and takes your car into the queue. Until it's actually put in front of a tech they are not diagnosing anything and any rental car would be coming out of their budget, and not be warranty billable. Some dealers will take that hit, some dealers don't have a queue and can diagnose the same day. But at many they expect you to just leave your vehicle there for days to weeks waiting for a tech to free up. Screw your needs.

Even the service managers act like this is just how it's done and you're SOL. Complain loud enough, complain to the right people, and make a scene on of their online reviews, and all the sudden a loaner can be found. Or better yet, find a better dealer who doesn't play those games, if you can.
