For lower-weight ICE vehicles I’ve seen others comment that hole locations like this can be safely patched, even if tire shops won’t do it.

But I’m wondering if the F150 lightning‘s weight and propensity to cause the sidewalls to flex a bit more than a lower weight vehicle raises issues with patching these locations?

thanks.

I've had 5-10 of those type punctures over the years, the guidance that the repair shop has generally told me is that if it's within 1" of the sidewall (which appears to be the case in your pic) then it's not repairable and tire needs to be replaced.

That's not to say that some people don't drive home and attempt a home plug on their own, but to me it was never worth the risk to try as there's a lot of weight/force/money riding on those tires.

I'm a bit confused as to which item is the actual puncture.

If it's the long piece on the left, personally I would patch it and send it, but I know that is recommended against doing by professionals.

If it's the object on the right, absolutely replace the tire.

I had one almost identical to this one, and Walmart immediately declined, and while not in the sidewall, 'too close' to the sidewall was their concern. I plugged it myself months ago and have had no issues.

yeah, it’s confusing to me too.

I think what happened is a drill bit somehow went in (and that’s the part that’s closer to the side wall) and then the screw end came out in the tread area.

so it looks like there’s two punctures from the same drillbit, but I won’t know for sure unless I try to remove it.

Any suggestions on the best place to buy a single identical Hankook AT2 replacement tire and getting that installed?

Your location says CA so I used '90210' as zip and there are plenty of Discount Tire stores in that part of CA, don't know if that's close to you or not.

Also when it comes to Hankook AT2 I'm not sure exactly which one as my OEMs were Goodyears, but the below looks like it may be a match:

You have actually got two punctures and potentially additional damage on the inside of the tire between the entrance and exit points of the drill bit. Replace the tire.

I had the same thing happened to me 2mo after I bought mine. The dealer said he did not have any Hankook tires and offered me a Pirelli tire for $400, but I did not want a mismatch. I found a Hankook on Amazon for $220 and had a shop mount and balance it.

As someone else said I was not going to take the chance of fixing it. Not worth taking a chance.

Ya, I would not attempt it, even if you plugged it yourself. could be too much internal damage (Flexing). Additionally . .almost looks like you need an alignment also, worth checking out.
