Hi- apologies in advance if this has been covered. The local utility offers substansial savings if I use the Chargepoint CPH50, the Flo X5, or the Emporia for charging. I've seen some mentions that preconditioning doesn't work on the Ford mobile charger, only on the Charge station Pro. I'm curious if I use one of these non Ford brands mentioned above if I will be able to precondition similarly to how I'd be able to with the CSP. Thank you in advance.

Where has it been discussed that the Lightning won't precondition when plugged in?

I'll argue the amount of preconditioning is limited on 110v (level 1)..but nevertheless it does heat or keep the battery warm overnight when plugged in. (The Ford pass app says preparing for drive in advance of my departure time).

The E-heater is 5KW. It cannot be powered solely from the 120V charger. Others have stated that no battery heating takes place on L1. I haven’t tried it, but simple math says that if it does, it will have to consume battery power to do so.

I’m just north of you, and on an Emporia from GMP. Hardwired in my garage by Brown Electric. 48amps. No issues. I keep Lightning plugged in, charge to 85% between 9pm and 1pm, and have departure time set for 7:15am Tu-Th. Only concern is my 3/3 GMP bill does not reflect the off peak rate. Could just be timing.

You can precondition on any charger. The limitation is if you charge on something lower than 40a the preconditioning will often use some of the battery. There is a warning in the remote start section that warns of remote starting (and also preconditioning) when not plugged in will use battery. Chargers below 40a don't provide an equivalent amount of power that the truck needs to precondition.

Kind of true, kind of false.

1) 120v charging alone does moderately increase battery temp. I have tested this and posted the results.

2) Typical Preconditioning which attempts to both warm the battery and the cabin is likely not 100% effective using only 120v.

I really believe the best method, and have posted data showing this, at reallly any charge rate but especially at 120v is to time your charge window to blend into your departure window to utilize the heating of the charging itself and thus less energy is needed solely for battery heating using the preconditioning.

It looks like @TopTension answered OPs question which is what I would have guessed. Ford charge station pro is just a dumb charger so I would expect other chargers to work the same. All the scheduling for the Lightning is handled by the truck itself and/or the Fordpass pushing those settings to the truck.

The PTC draws upwards of 10KW then tapers based on battery and cabin conditions

Ford F-150 Lightning Can you precondition on Chargepoint, Flo or Emporia or only on Ford Charge Station Pro? 1678245188468

This was a Remote start session only to warm the cabin, the profile for battery warming in colder conditions peaks longer at the start then tapers, it then spikes later ~15 minutes prior to actual departure time, then tapers and modulates for another 15 minutes after departure time.

Cumulative energy consumed to warm the cabin was 1.1 kWh or in my market 27 cents of shore power or 1.9 miles of lost range had I pre-warmed the truck without shore power @ [1.7 mpk]

This 100%. I plug in nearly every night on 120v. It gives me some charge but doesn't give me enough range for my daily commute. When I reach ~15% I plug into the 48A overnight and charge to 95%. This usually occurs every 5-7 days.

Rinse, repeat.

Hi OP,

Preconditioning is a car function and our charger will respond accordingly.
