I can't think of a reason you'd want it on all the time but the truck will handle the controls in auto mode so you don't have to touch anything.
Dunno, I can think of plenty. Skunks (had this on the commute last night, somebody hit one and then was stuck in backed up traffic in the evening commute), coal rollers, being stuck behind that diesel truck who's deleted his emissions gear, stuck behind the garbage truck, driving through an area with an active fire (forest fire, car fire, weed burn, etc.) Honestly I generally just leave recirc on all the time. It's unfortunate that the 24 switched to the heat pump, at least with the resistive heating you could use the AC as a dehumidifier like in any ICE vehicle.

If using recirculate worked as well as you all think it does you are going to asphyxiate while driving.

Best I can do is from the owners manual:

Note: Recirculated air may turn off
automatically, or prevent you from switching
on in all air flow modes except MAX A/C to
reduce the risk of fogging. Recirculation may
also turn on and off automatically in various
air distribution control combinations to
improve heating or cooling efficiency.

That’s really different than an other vehicle I have owned. I drive in the country so much this may have been a deal breaker for me had I known. It’s forcing outside air in conditions that won’t fog the windows on my morning drives and if it’s efficiency… well, I wish Ford would let me make that decision for myself.

The only solution I see based on all the reply’s is a software update from Ford that allows manual override, similar to the override for the seat heating/cooling and steering wheel heating.

Is there a place to provide request for software changes to Ford? I’m sure nothing would ever come of it but at least it would make me feel like I did something.

This aggravates me to no end. Yes Ford, I am so happy to have to remember EVERY SINGLE TIME I get in my truck to change the recirculate air setting in a sub menu so I don’t get choked out by all the diesel engines on the road in my commute.
EXACTLY, I want to keep it on b/c diesel exhaust coming in. My Ioniq 5 lets me leave recirc on as long as AC is on.

Everything everyone is saying as hard and fast are simply not true. Once the weather is cold, manual control of the AC compressor and fresh/recirc is virtually non-existent. The indicator lights are lying to you. The indicator light just shows what you selected. Not what it is actually doing.

In cold weather, my experience is that you cannot select fresh air vs recirculation. It seems to favor recirculation but some unknown percentage or even fully. This is likely a scheme to reduce the amount of PTC heat needed for the cabin, and possibly to increase the amount of PTC heat therefore available for the battery warming. Under ideal conditions, this would be intelligent.

In cold weather, the AC compressor will not run, period, end. I can monitor this in Car Scanner. It doesn't run no matter what mode you're in or what button you push. The indicator light will be on. But I can assure you the compressor is NOT running. Probably once again a scheme to use less electrical power.

A reasonable assumption on the programming logic is that with very dry outside air, you can mix fresh with recirculate air to keep the cabin dry. A dry cabin doesn't fog the windows up. Anyone who is old enough to remember the old days where there was a slider to vary the fresh/recirc mix knows what I'm talking about. This is the same reason even modern basic HVAC systems on other cars for 15 years have disabled recirc when in defrost mode.

This all falls apart because whoever wrote the programming logic is a moron. This is what happens when you let a blue haired Gen Z college intern that doesn't even have a drivers license write code of a vehicle. it does not manage that mix properly automatically. It does not let you override it manually. And the result is fogged up windows on the highway when it is 15 degrees and 15% humidity outside.
If you don't mind...

What is the name of the sensor for the AC compressor (or compressors with max tow) in Car Scanneer?

In the vehicle there is a feedback button.

Every Ford is like this. They aren't going to change it. People have complained in every model's forum or FB page, and been giving Ford feedback too.

When I was looking at all the vehicles out there before purchasing, Out of Spec was a YouTube channel I thought had valuable information. This evening YouTube suggested a video from them with interesting timing, considering it was a day after I discovered I couldn’t control the circulate features of the lighting.
At 19 minutes and 40 seconds he found a toggle in the BYD software that will automatically put the ventilation system in circulate at low speeds. It is used to automatically avoid vehicle exhaust from entering the cabin. Pretty cool for those of us that appreciate the circulate feature for various reasons, exhaust being one of them…
