ECU module programming guide using FDRS

Out of curiosity the people that got the usb update to work. Did you give your usb a specific name to help the truck recognize the usb device as the update?

On a separate note. Has anyone taken a look at the history section in FDRS for their vehicle? I did for mine and can see every service appointment and every software update activity prior to doing my own software update. The big difference is that my updates show my user name as the technician and the work done by the service dept do not show a technician name. Will this become a problem with the service dept in the future? If they go back and look at my history and see I did a bunch of updates, would that be reason enough for them to refuse to repair something electrical that might go out later down the road?

you are using ford approved tools and software to install ford approved firmware. Unless you brick an ECU, what can they really say?
There’s no modification or anything going on and Ford allows the software to be licensed by anyone.

Man this restart loop is more stupid than the IPMA not kicking over. I've tried the battery out method a few times, reset the TCU in Forscan and still nothing. Gonna keep trying

Quick question. I am stuck on APIM 1.7.1 Just checking to see if this is the dreaded restart loop. I loaded my usb. inserted it into the truck and it looked all good, told me not to remove, sat there updating for awhile (upper right part of the screen). Then said restart needed. I turned off truck and walked away with door open. waited over 30 min just to make sure. Went to truck and turned it back on with door closed. Sat there for a long time (8 minutes or so). Nothing happened at all.

Repeated it all a few times now. Nothing is happening and not getting even a restart vehicle screen. So is this the restart loop? It seems like it was updating but didn't finish. Master reset now a few times trying to trigger the finish. Still nothing, when ever I restart it seems like it reads the usb and that is it. Also a few times the screen is black and I have to hold power seek to get it to come on. Any help is appreciated.

Yep that's the restart loop alot of us get. No sure fire why to beat it, just patience and time.

As for the restart loop, I'm still the only one who got out of it by removing the USB stick AFTER shutting the truck down. Upon restarting the truck I got the "system updated" or "update successfull"... I can't remember which.

It was the APIM restart loop and I'm not exactly recommending anyone to do the same, but at the time I had tried everything else documented to get out of the loop and felt like I had nothing to lose.

I can confirm I also have the APIM enable Blue cruise now showing in fdrs. This was not available on Sunday. @Jesse-Infotainment would you happen to have any info on this. Would love to plug in to my truck and run it but I dont have the time until next week. Especially if it can take as much as 2-8 hours to run

After trying the other things I did give this a shot. no go. usb is back in and I guess the waiting game begins. Hopefully I didn't screw anything up. I may try and start it all over again tonight with another usb just in case. I was hoping since it actually said it was updating and never prompted me to restart after I restarted it wasn't the loop. If you got the "update started", you just have to wait. You didn't make it to the restart loop and may not even experience it.

I would think that if you simply interrupted the update, but AFTER all the files had been copied to the onboard storage, you are good to just keep waiting. But it's frustrating to not know for sure, so you could just start the FDRS update again. It will look at the USB stick and see the correct files are there and not require the full download again.

I dont. They had something similar a month or so ago. It must be real this time. I will dig to see what I can find in regards to this.
