This is a problem created by your accountant. You only need documentation if you are audited. Make a copy of the web page showing the retail price of the charger, tell your accountant that’s the retail price you want to use for you tax credit. If he won’t use that, fire the accountant.

This right here. I’m not an accountant but if I paid to install a bundled charger and didn’t have the itemized cost, I would look up the price on Ford’s website and add that to whatever I paid the electrician to install and then claim 30% of that total.

Remember that unenrolled-return preparers, enrolled agents and CPA's who offer return preparation services, have a professional responsibility regarding proper substantiation of positions a taxpayer might wish to make 'at risk' of being called out in a matching process review or full blown audit.

This crap triggers me so much. If the lawmakers that made these laws in an effort to push EV adoption to help reduce purported negative impacts on the climate of ICE vehicles how do they square this crap?

Seriously say it out loud and make it make sense!

1) You make too much money... so you dont get credit for helping to "save the planet" by building out EV infrastructure.

2) You live in wrong type of community... so we dont want to help you "save the planet" with a install credit.

3) ...and my favorite. A $79,999 truck helps save the planet and should get a Tax credit, but a $80,001 truck apparently does not help save the planet, so not credit!?!? 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Because it isn't to "save the planet", even as much as the media and the echo chambers parrot that. It's about economic development.

That and above a certain dollar amount, which implies a certain income, the buyer is likely to purchase anyways. Look at how many Platinum trims there are. There should be a limit, so be it $80,000, or $70,000, or $100,000 there will always be that above and below line.

I hit on two of the three as well. I guess it was to keep the "rich" from benefitting. I am far from rich, but do okay, and don't live in a depressed housing area. But, how many of the people who do are buying EVs (any type, brand, or price)?

Background ...... Purchased an xlt ER in Dec 2023 ..... At point of sale was told that there was a Ford incentive where if I purchased an ER version, I would recieve a pro charger via mail.

Well ...... After many phone calls, I did get Sunrun to mail the charger ..... eventually ...... and i finally got it and had it installed a few months later.

Upon doing my 2023 taxes, I was told I could claim the $7500 EV tax credit and I did ...... However, being i didn't actually receive and install the charger till 2024 ...... I would have to apply for the charger installed tax rebate on next year's return because it was received and installed in 2024 .... apparently you only qualify once it's actually installed ...... ok

Fast forward to this year and charger is installed, butt my accountant says he needs paperwork on how charger was purchased or receipt.
Being that the cost of the charger was part of the ER package, I thought proving this would be easy ...... WRONG

Dealer says they have nothing showing charger was part of ER package ....... Nothing in my paperwork states so either ...... Sunrun has nothing and wasn't any help at all .......But both the dealer and sunrun say I need to contact Ford

Ford says I need to contact the dealer and/or Sunrun ...... what??? ..... It was Fords decision to bundle this thing in with the ER package, Fords decision to distribute through Sunrun for some ungodly reason .... And they keep saying to call the dealer or sunrun who both insist that being it was Fords decision to bundle and use 3rd party distribution ..... Only Ford can provide documentation concerning Fords policies or promotions.

Is this some kind of twisted Joke?
I CANT be the only one in this situation ..... This crack seems so big that others out there MUST have fallen through as well

I got so frustrated talking to Ford as they continuously deflected that at one point I said "you know what? The charger was shipped via UPS, so why not tell me to also try to contact them for documentation concerning Fords own sales/promotion/bundle policies?

Again ...... this is for the federal EV charger installation rebate/credit and not the ev tax credit which i already got last year.

Has anyone experienced a similar runaround concerning providing documentation for this ev charger install tax incentive where the charger came from sunrun being you purchased a ER vehicle?

After experiencing this huge runaround and washing of hands from Ford ..... I could only imagine what it would be like if I had a serious issue requiring their assistance.
I absolutely love this truck but im not liking how Ford handles themselves

If they can't provide a copy of their very own sales policy, I have zero confidence they can deal in good faith concerning anything serious should (God forbid) something like that become reality .... At this point, I do believe this is the last Ford I'll ever even consider buying.
You can only get credit for the installation - the charger was in essence free, so the gov't can't reimburse you for something you got free.

But remember - to get the charger installation credit you have to live in certain areas defined by census tract.
-----
To qualify for the federal EV charger tax credit, an electric vehicle charger must be installed in a census tract with a low poverty rate or low median family income. The census tract's geographic identifier (GEOID) must be included in a list provided by the IRS.
-----
And you do not get 100% of what you spent, you get 30% up to max of $1000.

I am in one of the tracts and I purchased my FCSP as well as the installation materials, etc., so my tax credit number was about $400.
-----
How to claim the EV charger tax credit: Form 8911
To claim the federal tax credit for your home EV charger, or other EV charging equipment, file Form 8911 with the IRS when you file your federal income tax return.

Tell the IRS you paid retail price for something you got free? Tax fraud.

I can't claim my charger on form 8911 because my GEOID is not listed as eligible. Both tracts 1 number higher and lower )Areas just North and South of me) are eligible for some reason, but mine is not. I have a friend that lives just a couple blocks from me, and his address qualifies. I don't get it.

Just to be clear, this qualification is not for "depressed housing areas". I live on the edge of a major college town, in neighborhood of over 100 homes, none of which are small or inexpensive, and we qualify.

Right. Like I said, I don't understand what makes one area with middle income tract houses and some apartments not qualify when the tract right next to it with the same mixture does.

Well, I was always told by my mother that I was special, so there's that.
