EVSE (AKA charger) kWh usage vs. FordPass

I have the Grizzl-E Smart 40 Amp EVSE.
My Grizzl-E Connect App shows 148.8 kWh usage on February 8, 2025 during a single charge event.
Isn't that impossible because my battery capacity is only 98 kWh?

The truck is parked in a fully insulated garage. It does not do any battery or cabin pre-heating. I routinely leave it plugged in for multiple hours after charging is complete. It has never done anything like this before. And the FordPass App does not show an unexpected amount of electricity usage.

My FordPass App shows 61 kWh to charge from 28% to 90% for that same charge event.
Either the Grizzle-E Connect App is giving me false information, or 87.8 kWh (148.8 - 61) got mysteriously wasted. If so, that's alarming.

Shouldn't the FordPass App and the Grizzl-E Connect App show the same or very similar number of kWh?
What happened to the mysterious 87.8 kWh (148.8 - 61)?

I’ld ask that question to the Grizzl-e support line. I’ld bet they would have answer or at least be interested.

The net to battery shown in FP should be about 10% or so less than what’s delivered by the EVSE.
If the battery temperature is below freezing, the truck will use power to heat it when plugged in.
But your difference seems like a lot.

FordPass usage checks out.

They updated their app 4 days ago. Coincidence? Also make sure you're reading the Grizzl-E app correctly. On my Emporia, a recent app update recently changed the default display. Could be your seeing Month-to-Date as of Feb 8th?

Fordpass value of 61 kWh, would be about 68 kWh gross through the EVSE under ideal conditions.
In very cold conditions with battery warming being needed, 88 kWh could be possible.

I'm leaning on the possibility that there is a data reporting error with the EVSE or as @bmwhitetx mentions a reporting format change is what you're seeing.

I double checked my Grizzl-E Connect App.
It's showing 216.6 kWh cumulatively for February and 145.8 kWh for February 8.

They are clearly doing the math wrong. Your graph shows charging starting at 5:47pm for 6 hours 51 minutes. So ending at 12:38am. That's 6.86 hours. With max power of 9.13 kW, max total energy would be (6.86 x 9.13) 62.62 kWh. Pretty close to FordPass. Should have more losses though.

If you used 9.13 kW for the entire 15 hour, 33 minute session (which you didn't), that would be 142 kWh. I'm guessing they did that - which is an error.

EDIT: Another check is their electrical cost calculation. They say $7.45 at 12.6 cents/kWh (hard to tell if that is the rate in your graph). That would equal 59 kWh.

Might I also add; Grizzl-E is known for their robust hardware solutions (and I commend them on that, they are built well), not their software offerings.

If you want to just plug in your truck and trust it will work, Grizzl-E is fantastic. If you want more reporting features, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. There are a few of other EVSE's that do a good job at both hardware/software. (I'm not here to champion or promote one over the other as I only have experience with a handful of EVSE, including Grizzl-E, but I did enjoy my Emporia while I used it)
