The Ford Lightning out sold the Cybertruck in the 4th Quarter.

(This is despite all the Tesla message boards saying the Cybertruck is going to outsell the F150)

Hmmm.

FYI The Lightning sold 10,703 in Q4.
The Cybertruck sold 9,600 in the 4th Quarter.

I hope the Lightning outsells the Cyber yuk in 2025 as well.
It is possible.

I support all things Tesla, but IMO the Cybertruck is going to be a tough sell because of its styling & price. Only a small % of people want their pickup truck to look like the Cybertruck. And, at $79,000+ a year, that group is going to stay small.

Meanwhile, Ford could get to 75,000 units in 2025.
(if they ever do build the Gen2, with faster charging, and longer range, the # sold should go up dramatically)

Give me the charging of the Porche Taycan and I'd trade tomorrow. lol. Out of Spec had a cross country trip where the Taycan was only about 2 hrs behind a ICE Acura over 3100 miles+.

I hope Ford (or any EV maker to be honest) can improve their charging to match the Taycan.

That would make a big difference in the ownership experience of an EV.

The cost per transaction was most likely considerably higher on the Tesla side. But that said I'm happy to contribute to the Ford side with my Lightning lease.

The controls on Teslas are just too weird on the newer models for me to own one. It would be better if they had HUD for basic driving parameters, but, they don't, you have to look at the stupid center screen.

The CT is seriously fast, I will give it that. Drove one at the EV Expo at Circuit of the Americas and everyone in the back seat was screaming every time I floored it, which I did as many times as I safely could.

They had a further video where they canonnballed the Taycan from NY to LA in less than 40 hours. The charging on the Taycan is awesome, but it costs twice as much as a Lightning.

I'm hoping this technology trickles down to more accessible models by the time I am done with the lease on my Lightning.

For some reason delayed it until 2027…

Why not delay gen 2 to 2028 and give the 2025 truck a slight visual refresh and NACS port with faster charging? Don’t even need a larger battery if the charging was quicker!

I think it is delayed because the plant being built in Kentucky/Tennessee is delayed. That need that plant to build it.

Ive been seeing a lot of Lightning purchase posts in various forums. I have also noticed the number of lightnings available to buy in my area decrease over the last couple months of the year. I paid attention since I bought mine in November.

THe lightning to me is a much more comfortable switch for a typical truck buyer. I have really enjoyed mine. Ford did a great job with it for a first attempt.

As far as the Cyber Truck Ill be interested to see how it does next year.

@Ford Motor Company should definitely do the NACS and a better charging curve. Then also thin down the line up a bit so there is less configuration to build. Like do a SR XLT, Flash, and Lariat. And call it a day until the new truck is available.

I would love for them to do the NACS in a way where those that are willing could pay to have the modification done to the existing. Since I plan to keep mine for another 6-7 years, I would consider it.

If they could get 200-225 peak curve to allow an average of 175 to 80% would be a great benefit and have around 30 minutes to go 10%-80%. Still not class leading but more resp

Don't think that'll happen in the current iteration due to the sub-400v battery packs. Current superchargers/EA 350's max out at 500 amps so you're pretty much limited to under 200 kW. Believe the ones used at the Ionnca Rechargies are 600 amp but doubt the thermals on the lightning would like that very much. Ford could possibly adjust the curve and give the 500 amp boost for longer but that's about all current lightning owners can expect.

This.

Ford EVs need to move 800V ASAP. You don't even need Taycan tech... the Hyundai/Kia/Genesis E-GMP EVs already have wickedly fast charging curves. I owned an Ioniq 5 Limited and Mach-E at the same time and the Ioniq was 2-3x faster (230 kW vs. 90-100 kW).

Hope Jim Farley knows this and has his engineers working on fast charging curve for future Lightnings and Mach-Es.

I love my Lightning, but would be delighted if my next one had what you describe with the Ioniq.
