Ugh after taxes those sellers didn't make anything except the EV rebate which is going away soon. Maybe if you live in a sales tax free state or something it might work.
I would hope they aren't claiming the federal tax credit. Using auction sites like this seems to be a pretty clear indication that they purchased with the intent to resell. I certainly wouldn't chance it.

I haven't done the work, so I can't say definitively, but it looks like the Lariat market is the softest. I don't think that the MSRP comment holds for PROs or Platinums. Not sure about XLTs. But, yes, I would definitely agree that the Lariat market (especially the SR) is very soft these days. It looks like folks either want a cheap (PRO) Truck EV or a luxurious top of the line model, but not so much models that are in between those two extremes. And, who could blame them, as those two price points are the one that make the most common sense. The PRO, if it were available, is practically a steel, can see those prices softening at all anytime soon. The Platinum, with all its options, is not too bad a value compared to other luxury EVs.
But what do I know.

It looks like folks with want a cheap (PRO) Truck EV or a luxurious top of the line model, but not so much models that are in between those two extremes.
I don't know whether we can infer that conclusion from the sales evidence. It seems at least as likely the reason the XLT and Lariat trims are the "softest" is due to the fact there are more of them available.

Anyone notice that the price of the Lightning on auction sites is very close to MSRP now?

There are 156-ish Lariats available on cargurus from dealers and they are still asking $20K over, but closed auctions on ebay and cars-n-bids are closing near MSRP. With tax, flippers are breaking even or even losing a little.

I wonder what this means for future value. Similar to Teslas, I expect depreciation to be pretty mild for at least 3 years, when there will be a lot more options.
I hope these people flipping these get burnt. Since at the moment at least the lightning is the only EV full size truck, that still looks like a truck.
I believe they will hold their value very well for quite some time.

Remember, many panic sell like they do in the stock market (=rookie mistake). Many think they'll flip for $40k in a day. When a week or two go by and they realize they have to pay a car payment, they start freaking out. So they drastically cut the price. Many don't realize the fee's they'll have to pay for ebay and paypal or whatnot too. So not only are they making thin profits, many idiots get screwed with online seller fees that may put them in red. Plus, many don't think about location. If you're in a small town far from a big city, nobody is gonna drive cross country to pay you a $40k markup. If you're flipping and expect big profit fast, you better live near a big city where the money is. Just my two cents.
I hope these people flipping these lightnings get the short end. It'll serve them right.

I wouldn't be "embarrassed" to have a Taycan because it's slower 0-60. It would demolish a Lightning on a track. Apples-to-oranges. A Lightning Lariat isn't any faster than a $40k Pro. Is that embarrassing?

So, Model Y is still cheaper and quicker and faster at road tripping and has the Tesla charging network and can use CCS. It's not for everyone and Lightning has plenty of advantages, too.

Obviously, there are plenty of personal preferences and use case decisions that influence buying. I'm just saying it's not obvious that an $80k Lightning is the "best car/truck on the market." It's *arguably* the best, but depending on use case and personal preferences, it may be the best or top 3 or top 10, but there are a few that are competitive if you've got $80k-$90k to spend, for sure.
I guess I don't understand why anyone would take a lightning to the track anyway. It's fast, but it's not a race car. I bought mine to use it to haul & tow locally and it works great for that. Also love the 9.6 kw generator on board. So many uses for that, just fantastic.

cars-n-bids is at MSRP now with some failed auctions recently on Lariat/XLT ERs. The platinum seems to do a little better sometimes.

Carvana should not be your barometer on prices. They are in deep trouble. Seek prices from Driveway.com, and other online services.
