Ford Needs to Promote Two Pedal Mode to First Time EV Buyers.

My point being that the other EVS don't even have a choice. You get regen braking when you let off the accelerator no matter what. There is no option for coasting when you let up the accelerator.

Can be very off-putting for those new to EVs to learn the whole concept.

I agree. I find it very off putting. I love to "coast"; not to save energy -- just to "relax". The notion that driving is either one of two things -- accellerating or braking -- is foriegen to me. In my mind driving is one of three things: accellerating, coasting, or braking. Losing coasting is not for me.

I'd compare learning to drive with 1PD, with driving a manual. The more you use it and practice the regen braking with it, the easier and smoother it gets. Not everyone enjoys driving a manual transmission, not everyone enjoys 1PD.

It's completely personal preference, and it does take a few drives to retrain your muscle memory. Feathering the pedal is much more fun, to me, and the vehicle is more responsive in 1PD (and responsiveness on a Lightning is a heck of a lot of fun).

I agree Ford should promote this more. I find forced 1PD to be user hostile. Let me coast without having to keep my foot on the pedal.

Love 1 PD driving. I use it on the BMW i3. With the rear tail lights that stick out a bit on the side, it's easy to know that the brake lights illuminate when easing off the accelerator.

So here is my question that hopefully we will never need to worry about.. since my foot is technically on or at the accelerator pedal, even at a stop sign, red light. What happens if you get rear ended and your foot slams the accelerator pedal upon impact. Does the lighting launch or does the impact immediately kill the accelerator from launching you into whatever is in front of you?

Are you referring to the small amount of “engine drag” that prevents true coasting? I’m not overly bothered by that.

The lightning doesn’t have an automatic transmission but has permanent magnet motors so in effect it’s not capable of coasting at all, even in neutral.

Regardless of the technical details, I still find 1PD to be annoying AF. My foot shouldn’t have to be engaged 100% of the time to operate the vehicle.

I disagree equating driving a manual with driving 1PD. I've been driving manuals since 1967. My last one was a 2013 Fusion which I had to custom order with the manual transmission. My 22 Lightning is my first automatic. I just do not like not having coasting.

I stand by my comparison. I'm in no way saying if you like manual you'll like 1PD. Just comparing the process of learning 1PD.

You like coasting, awesome! Each person has a personal preference. I find my truck more fun in 1PD, you don't and that's OK. As long as you love your truck, that's all that matters. At least Ford left us the option of choosing either/or.

I agree with the comparison of 1 pedal driving to a manual transmission. Where it really shines for me is a curvy road. I always preferred a manual in that situation & find 1 pedal driving the same feel.

I left 1-pedal on for awhile and got used to it, although it did take awhile. But I went back to 2-pedal as I prefer it after experiencing both. Ford did a good job in making 2-pedal mimic the drive and feel of an ICE vehicle.

Yes, exactly. Ford did a good job making 2-pedal mode drive pretty much the same as the cars people are already used to driving. AND they still get all the regen.

During the test drive and sales experience with a new EV buyer is NOT the time to be telling people its their fault they are not driving the 1 pedal regen correctly.

I think most people on this forum will agree that alot of sales people at Ford locations are undertrained and uninformed.

I'm a bit confused, having never test driven another EV. Does the Rivian not have 2 pedal driving as an option?
