Yesterday while shopping I pulled in to a parking spot with some overhanging bushes and needed to open the Frunk. So I backed up a bit to open it, my wife removed some bags and I hit the close button on the dash. While the hood was closing I shifted into drive to pull forward a couple of feet and the Frunk didn't like that. Threw an error code and I tried again to close.
It appeared to be closed but said to service the Frunk soon. Tried switching off a few times to clear it but would not operate at all. So off to the dealers down the street and they were very accommodating trying to resolve the problem. After scan and clear several times although latch it would not clear so a new actuator module (located in passenger footwell under dash, blue) was ordered expected overnight.

Problem is it beeps while in drive and moving with no override. While this is going on the radio does not work so cranking up the tunes won't work. We live rural and the drive in is 80km and I will have to return for the fix. Ford needs to remedy this item.

May be worth it to try this:
  1. Open the frunk fully (if you need to do this manually, use the little red tab on the wall by your left foot - pull twice to unlatch the hood).
  2. Once opened fully, press and hold the frunk button on the frunk until it beeps (maybe 5 seconds or so). This resets the fully open position with the frunk controller.
  3. Manually close the hood gently until the mechanism takes the hood and latches it.
  4. Try the frunk button and see if it opens/closes normally.
  5. Start the truck and see if the error code is gone.
This process will reset the hood open/close parameters and may clear your code. If not, your dealer is likely on the right path with the latch.

FYI, the truck shuts down many of the controllers after a period of time to conserve energy. If you leave the frunk open for too long, the truck shuts down the frunk controller with the frunk open and it loses its brains. It thinks there is an error since it expects the frunk to be closed when the controller starts up but the latch isn't telling it that it is closed. I'm wondering if shifting into gear with the frunk open scrambled the frunk controller settings in a similar way. The procedure above may straighten it out.

Thanks for that. We tried that at the dealers and nothing, however I have an appointment Wed to install the module. Reluctant to mess with it in case it won't lock with a 75km trip to the dealer.

I've moved my truck several times while the frunk was already open, with no issues, but not WHILE it was opening, or closing... it has a built-in safety measure, which you've experienced. I highly doubt it's actually needing a new 'anything'... it sounds to me like a simple disconnect of the 12v battery might do the trick. I just needs a reset.

Update: Yesterday I was going to remove the beeper so I hit the emergency release and used the button on the hood. It opened and closed normally and seems to be reset, no beeping. Little disappointed that the dealer couldn't unplug the beeper but maybe a liability issue or didn't have time as I was a unscheduled drop in.

I was able to reset my frunk. Having the vehicle "running" seemed to do the trick while performing the reset procedure listed above.

This guidance was helpful. I messed up the frunk by putting the car in Drive before the frunk was closed and it freaked out yesterday. For those that might need what we tried and got to work:

- Manually opened the frunk and pushed all the way to highest point
- Held the button down but it didn't beep
- Pushed the emergency release button inside the frunk and that started some beeping and moved the hood down a bit, could hear some clicking, then it moved a bit more and more clicking
- Pressed the close button and the hood opened and closed normally

I also shifted to D before my frunk closed completely once. All I did was shift to P and hit the button again. Everything was fine.

Another update to my problem Frunk. Last week went to town shopping and used the frunk, all fine. Third stop I got the dreaded warning message again. Frunk malfunction and wouldn't open and started beeping in drive.
Went to the local dealer and surprised they got me in within a half hour. It was very cold and we thought it might have frozen. Biggest problem was emergency latch didn't work and I had a case of beer in there. Spent 1 1/2 hrs waiting and the diagnostic scan said it was the module. Lucky for me the module was in stock as they had ordered one last time and hadn't returned it. So 2hrs later I was on my way again problem solved.
Great service from Bourgeois Ford North, Parry Sound, Ontario.

You can't leave us hanging like this! The beer didn't freeze did it? I hope you were able to consume it with no problem.

I have had two frunk glitches. The first time I put it in reverse while it was closing and I got the ear splitting noise through the speakers. Luckily it cleared by turning the truck off and closing the frunk manually. Yesterday at the grocery store I put it in drive while it was moving and it stopped. I had to get out and manually close it but everything still worked without any resets. Best practice is to never do anything else while the frunk is moving.

Update: Yesterday we went shopping in Sudbury about 90km from home. Before leaving I opened the Frunk and closed it all fine, first stop opened to get bags out all fine. Upon returning to the truck the Frunk malfunctioned and didn't open. Off to the local Ford Dealer and they are behind working on finishing yesterdays service work, nobody available. They also have another Lightning with the same problem in the shop. Been there for a week and can't fix it.

@Ford Motor Company There should be a way to disable a Frunk Alert when a malfunction occurs! We had to listen to the chime for over 90km:mad:. I purchased a bag of foam ear plugs from HD and keep them in the glove box, don't leave home without them. It overrides the radio and you can only get 8 seconds of quiet unplugging your seat belt and it overrides phone calls. My wife does not want to travel anywhere in the Lightning or the Mach E as she doesn't trust the vehicles anymore and wants to sell them.
Rant over

Here is how I fixed my frunk. The problem is that the instructions written in the owners manual are so bad.

To clarify, here are the steps that I would write.
Step 1 - Pull the manual release loop once to release the primary latch, while someone is at the front of the truck lifting up on the frunk.
Step 2 - Continue to pull on the manual release loop to release the secondary latch, while someone is at the front of the truck lifting up on the frunk. Now the frunk should be freed.
Step 3 - Once the frunk is open. Push the Emergency kidnap button inside the frunk. The frunk should lift completely to its highest position and beep a few times.
Step 4 - You should be able to press the close frunk button and it should close on its own, because now it knows the correct open/close status of the frunk.

Step One - did that doesn't always work. I did get it open in Sudbury, lifted to the highest point and pushed the button. Crickets. Closed it and nothing nor could I get it to release again. That tether/loop is too small designed for petite pinky's.
Tomorrow I may try again and if open will remove the beeper. There is a video for that and it doesn't throw a fault.
Once the beeper is out I'll try the emergency release button, good tip. Thanks
