I just bought and installed this (hardwired, 6awg thhn wire):

Emporia Smart Level 2 EV Charger | Up to 48 Amp | WiFi Enabled Electric Vehicle Charger | NEMA 14-50 or Hardwired | Indoor/Outdoor Charging Station | 24-Ft Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BP1GM76/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_SY5911HWXWRKC9P7MTNT

Will max out standard range charging speed only $399.

App works well gives full read out of costs and full scheduling. Syncs with ultity for pricing (from a third party source). On the fly amp changes ( don't always need to pull max).

Using it for my ioniq 5 right now.

Only complaint I have for it is the cable is pretty thick (in comparison to the chargepoint). But I guess it's some security so I don't accidentally cut it somehow.
Product is not listed (confirmed to meet safety standards) by a Nationaly Recognized Testing Laboratory. Buyer beware.

Popular diy solar/battery guy vouches for it, says it's well built:

Per Emporia about certification:

No, this product is not UL or ETL listed, however we contracted with UL to consult on our design and perform critical testing against their standards. Rest assured, the entire Emporia EV Charger is manufactured to comply with the safety criteria defined by these international standards: NEC 625 - Electric Vehicle Charging System Equipment; SAE J1772 - Electric Vehicle Conductive Charge Coupler Standard; UL 817 - Cord Sets and Power-Supply Cords, UL 991 - Safety Tests for Safety-Related Controls Employing Solid-State Devices; UL 2231 - Standard for Personnel Protection Systems for Electric Vehicle Supply Circuit; UL 2251 - Standard for Plugs, Receptacles and Couplers for Electric Vehicles, and UL 2594 - Standard for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment. We summitted the model being sold today to UL in July for certification and hope to be listed by the end of 2021.

Would expect it to be verified anytime now. COVID likely delaying certs.

To each their own, but hopefully others are not tricked into thinking this "coming" listing will be retroactive if earned. Not a risk I'd take with a device pumping over 10,000 Watts for hours on end in my garage while I sleep.

Discussion of build quality starts here:

"High quality Unit"

From guy who regularly builds off-grid solar systems and deals with electricity all day.

Built per UL spec, just missing a piece of paper. It's not rocket science, there's very little in an "EV Charger". The main bits are in the car itself.

"basically just fancy light switches..."

All cost basically comes from the cable itself.

It's also not some rando Chinese company pumping out cheap hardware on Amazon. The company is based in Colorado. They have home energy monitoring and even sell a UL certified Home Battery backup... They have V2G charger coming in 2023 as well.

My homeowner's insurance company could care less what Will Prowse's opinion of build quality is, and frankly would probably not cover me if I did in my home what he does in his videos. Until they have completed what other professional equipment manufacturer's complete before they sell products to the public, buyer beware.

Also, if they don't have the money to go through standard certification process, what makes you think they will around long enough to support any warranty claims?

My previous comment said they already submitted it, it was just taking a while to get it...

I decided to ping them and got an immediate response:

Thanks for following up! Good news, we just got confirmation from UL that the certification is complete, and they're just wrapping up the paperwork until that confirmation is finalized. Here's the link for the confirmation on their website: https://productiq.ulprospector.com/en/profile/4703813/ffwa.e523904?term=E523904 &page=1

Ok, once they are certified, I would consider buying their product. Not until then.

Hey not to go way off topic but how are you liking the Ioniq? Wife is looking at it as a lease vehicle.

6 gauge seems a bit much ?? Darn if the instructions don't say it so best to follow that.

Also instructions have a few flaws.....

The 48 amp Ford Connected Charge Station is an option available to purchase through Ford. It's just not included with a Lightning.

https://www.ford.com/buy-site-wide-content/overlays/mach-e-overlays/ford-connected-charge-station/
This is the charger I want to buy. I do want the 9.5kW power option, but I don't need the 80A Charge Station Pro, because my power rarely ever goes out (Oncor says that if your house is on the same circuit as a hospital or critical infrastructure (like a water treatment plant), you won't lose power during times they're doing a rolling blackout). I want to do a permanent installation, and put a small electronic meter before it so I can accurately calculate how much it costs to charge the truck each month

Alternatively, I'll use this EVSE: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082LMVSLY/ Grizzl-E 40A charge station.

I'll use the included 32A EVSE when I'm out somewhere, like my parents, or on vacation.
