Instead of forced to use SunRun & Ford's 80A FCPS EVSE, a company came out with an alternative bi-directional 48A L2 home charge & back up using the DC FC connector.

This option might be a hit for the SR battery Lightning owners...

hmm. it doesn't look physically large enough to do all of the bypass stuff etc. - am I crazy on that? I'd love a less expensive but still completely workable option and I'm willing to wait on it, but I want to make sure that it's a like for like capability-wise.

I think the innovation is the integrated inverter? Whereas in the Sunrun system it is a separate box.

This unit is on my radar - I have messaged the company volunteering my Lightning to be a beta tester....

It’s vaporware. Also good luck getting out of Ford if the truck supports ISO 15118 V2G interface.
To be fair - it was announced and has always stated delivery would be in 2023.

Plug and play is part of ISO 15118, which Lightning will support. I wonder if it can be only partially implemented in a vehicle like Lightning that also features V2G?

Where have you seen this documented? I recall someone alluding to it, but no commitment.

Tom Moloughney YT video with Ford charging guy. I think he was saying they were attempting to follow the standard but the version wasn't formally adopted yet so implementation could still fall outside of standard.

I checked Wikipedia after seeing Tom's video. The reference links seem credible. That's what makes me think it's an emerging standard for all communications that occur at vehicle charging ports for a number of tasks. Someone referencing Ford's V2G/H implementation mused on whether Ford being first big guy to the party would be incorporated into the final standard or whether it will become a proprietary Ford implementation outside of the final ISO 15118.

The SR trucks also require a paid software unlock to enable the intelligent backup feature.

It’s interesting that they chose to utilize DC charging!

Will this work with Solar? I mean to let F150 charge from Solar only. Then let system use F150 first to certain SoC, then switch to grid. Not just use F150 as a backup power.

It appears too small to include a solar inverter. The Ford / SunRun HIS solution has a Microgrid, keeping your solar on when the grid is down, and has a 97% efficiency of PV to EV charging, which is why I wanted it.

Sadly it went from a 10kW PV solution, to 4kW which is too small to run your house and charge your truck during the day, then running the house off the truck at night.

This was the feature I wanted out of the truck, and now I will wait for gen2 V2H solutions that are proven with MY22 Lightnings. I may be waiting forever.
