Is it based on your current speed/draw? Or does it calculate it based the number of batteries charge percentage with the hypothetical potential miles that could be driven with that percent under ideal conditions? (Like saying: If driven at no more than 55nmph you should be able to go XXX number of miles.)

The reason I ask if that I never see the range go up if I slow from 80 to 45 for a while.

Depends on which software you’re on. The most recent one changed it to calculate based on optimal conditions. A prior version based it on your current trip consumptions.

I don't think you'll ever see the estimated range suddenly 'go up', but you'll notice that it does not FALL nearly as fast... you may another drive 2 miles and see no change in the range, etc...

I currently have an issue that FORD has not been able to help me with: the 'range-o-meter' did not change back to 'truck range' from 'towing range' after I detached my trailer LAST WEEK. It's been showing 'towing range' for the last many days, even with charging in between, and many cyclings of the ignition, etc.
What happens, though, with the 'range', is that while it shows only 1/2 the number of miles I would normally expect, it does not CHANGE nearly as frequently as it would while actually towing... so, I can go two miles, and the 'range-o-meter' is still showing the '73 miles of range' it showed two miles ago, etc. Basically, the range is showing that it thinks I am towing, and yet it also sees that the power required to move me those two miles was not NEARLY the amount it expected.

I would highly recommend not using the GoM to make decisions on if you can / cannot make it to your destination for the exact reasons you're describing. I personally do a more convoluted method that I posted in the Trips subsection but basically I take an estimated efficiency (typically 2mi/kWh on the interstate at 70-75mph). I take my distance to the next charger and divide it by that number (2) which gives me a kWh required to reach if I drive at 2mi/kWh or better. I divide that by 131 for the ER battery and then I have a charge percent to make it.

I wish Ford's GoM could simply input the route programmed and estimate usage to give us a realistic range but from what I've seen and people I've talked to, it does not. My method above has helped me max perform my battery, typically arriving at around 6-10% SoC and that way I can focus on charging at the fastest speeds.

Did you go into the towing menu and tell the truck the trailer is disconnected?

Yes that's what I had to do to get it to reset.

That’s the workaround.
Mine has automatically determined the absence of trailer all but one time - I did the manual step then.
