So for example, when I go to Vegas from S. California I have to stop in Baker CA to charge up to 90%. It takes about an hour to charge. Are you not going on long trips that require you to charge up for that amount of time?
An hour sounds long is it a fast charger?

When I charge on trips, I usually stop at about 80% because the charging slows down to protect the battery.

States are a lot closer together in New England. On the initial charge on an ER battery I can get to six different states, and I live on Cape Cod that is on the eastern edge of MA. The farthest I go routinely is ~240 miles to St Johnsbury, VT.

I used to live in AZ, I donā€™t think I wouldā€™ve chosen an EV if I were still living there because of the distances involved and frequency of trips beyond the initial battery range. I used to drive diesel vehicles (VW TDI and Cummins) that could go 600+ miles per tank. I was able to make a round trip from Flagstaff to Tucson and back without filling up. The common 488 mile trip from Flagstaff to San Diego would be rough in my Lightning.

All depends on the stations speed. If you can do a 20-80% charge in 30 minutes, thatā€™s reasonable. Now with Tesla station access there should be more choices at high speed.

EV doesnā€™t work well everywhere. For example, where itā€™s really cold. This cold snap has really decreased my range. If I was like this 6+ months of the year I would have to rethink.

Oh wow, I used to drive my 2002 Beetle TDI across the country. Loved that car, I sold it after California started testing diesels.

Because of the long distance in between chargers, I go to 90% and I have a SR.

Which Nazis?

The Nazi accusation has been used to vilify anyone one side disagrees with from George W Bush to present. Itā€™s become a toothless accusation lobbied by those lacking the intellect to defend their beliefs in a legitimate debate.

We either have a first amendment or we donā€™t:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I applaud Elon Muskā€™s stance on twitter being a free speech platform for ALL speech. I have no tolerance for bigotry or racism regardless of the source. Unfortunately the way things have gone the judgement of whatā€™s racist depends on the ethnicity of the person saying it. Stuff like this is pushed by one side.

I enjoyed Adam Corollaā€™s recent commentary about his white privilege.

ADAM CAROLLA: I want to talk about my white privilege so badly. I graduated North Hollywood High with a 1.7 GPA. I could not find a job.

I walked to a fire station in North Hollywood. I was 19. I was living in the garage of my family home.

My mom was on welfare and food stamps and I said, can I get a job as a fireman? And they said, no, because you're not black, Hispanic, or a woman. We'll see in about seven years.

And I went to a construction site and dug ditches and picked up garbage for the next seven years. I got a letter in the mail sent to my father's house saying, your time has come to do the written exam for the LA Fire Department. I took it and I was standing in line and I had a young woman of color standing behind me in line and I said, just out of curiosity, when did you sign up to become a fireman? Because I did it as a person seven years ago. And she said, Wednesday. That is an example of my white privilege.
So Adam Corolla is one white guy who struggled. I had a similar experience growing up. I made it out of poverty too. But take a look at the number of people of color who go through that and never make it past the barriers. And women are still not considered equal to me when it comes to salary. Too many people donā€™t want to accept there is inherent discrimination in all societies. And when a remedy is tried people cry foul.

But here is the thing, you don't know why those people were passed up. I am a black American I can tell you I have never been hire by another black person not that I've interviewed with one but my point is for every job I worked I was hired by white men with the exception of 2 other times. I'm 56 and retired now and I"ll just say this. Knowing people who are like me, I think it more of a cultural thing rather than someone just not hiring because of skin color. I've come across so many that are willing to place blame on white people for things that have nothing to do with just straight out racism and that includes some in my own family and it disgusts me when I hear it. Its more like their misinterpretations of the situations because of years of confirmation bias, ie. "The Talk' as black people like to put it. And that's not to say racism doesn't exist, but I think it far less than what some would like us all to believe. Sorry for my soap box. lol

I agree that this is almost always a cultural thing as opposed to blatant racism. But I think that puts an onus on everyone to be observant and actively think about their inherent biases. And unfortunately that doesnā€™t happen enough. My soapbox too.

I wouldā€™ve entertained the Cybertruck for the same money. I like the aesthetics of the Lightning better, but Tesla has the best EV software and charging network. i really like everything Musk is doing for the past couple of years.

If I were buying again today with the same financials as when I leased my Flash last month I would make the same decision. The Silverado isnā€™t for me, I saw one recently and really hated it. The Rivian is interesting, but they designed the lift over frunk poorly.
Tesla does have the best EV software, and the most extensive charging network. But Ford could probably catch up with the software, and most of the charging network is open for all EVs now. What Tesla probably won't catch up on is customer service and quality. They have relied on being the original tech innovators for too long, and if they can't compete on service and quality they won't stay competitive.

With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, I would have stayed with my ā€˜18 F-150 ICE until Ford figures out how to build reliable batteries. I have had to have two modules replaced on my ā€˜22 Lightning Lariat ER in 22k miles and 32 months.

I probably would have put new bushings in the suspension of my HD edition 03 F150, kept the truck that got 10 MPG on a good day and never, ever, ever take it on a road trip.

Iā€™m totally satisfied with my ā€™22 Lariat!
Iā€™ve been driving electric since 2018, my Volt used less than 8 gallons of gas a year.
After all the years of being screwed buy the gasoline and diesel companies, Iā€™m glad to be doing my part and adding my little nail to their well earned coffin!
