Interesting behavior, depending on amps used

I don’t have any screenshots to document this but been a slow day at work here and the last few days with as cold as it’s been I’ve been toying around with charging it very low amperage to avoid hitting the target charge and just warm battery throughout the day.

That being said this morning after cold soaking , I plugged in at 88 percent SOC at 20 A and by noon had slowly marched its way to 95%.

Leaving for lunch break the battery had only warmed halfway to the centerline. (Normally at 36 to 40 A, it warms it almost all the way to center.) I left the truck on throughout my lunch break and got back to work with a 90% SOC. Knowing I would be driving 100 miles this evening. I turned charge limit up to 100% and cranked the amperage up to 40. And instead of gaining charge according to the app, I’ve lost 2% after being plugged in for an hour and a half.

my conclusion being charging at low amps does not warm the battery much and instead trickles charge in. Higher amperage warms the battery considerably so much that either the usable capacity increases or generating the heat takes some battery. Resulting in loss of charge first hour or two charging while cold ish.

Heat is proportional to power which is proportional to the square of the current. Cutting the current in half reduces the heat produced by a factor of four.
