Issue programming a new key

Agree with the principle that following what other users have done is generally better than following the manual. I followed the manual very carefully (timing, key placement, etc.) about 10 times to program the third fob for our Mach-E and it didn't work. Then watched a 'Tube video where someone programmed a third fob in an Explorer. The video showed the fob being placed in its holder backwards from what the Mach-E manual clearly stated. Worked on the first try when I placed the fob "wrong."

The manuals are written by humans, but a little more care wouldn't cost that much and would make customers a lot happier.

So I got the AliExpress key, did all the steps… twice now I’ve gotten the key programming successful prompt. But immediately after it doesn’t work, I’m not sure what’s happening since I did get it “successful”.
Any ideas?

Just ran into this issue myself, Ford changed the frequency for the TMPS sensors, and the Fobs from 314MHz to 433MHz, so if you picked up a Fob that was designed for a 2023 or older Lightning, it's on the wrong frequency. You can still program it, and it will still work in the backup slot, but nothing that requires RF will work,

That would be my guess, it's possible not all 2024 got the change, might depend on trim level and build date. I just used a Flipper Zero to confirm what the original was operating at 433MHz, and then checked the new one and realized it was at 315MHz. I'm not having any luck yet finding one that's 433MHz with both a Frunk and Tailgate button on it, short or buying it from the dealership, but don't want to pay that much for one.

That’s interesting. So this was purchased based off a link from another thread on how to 3d print a case to make a diy PaaK of sorts. I got the 315mhz and yeah it basically is a dud seems like, but this could explain it.
Pretty good reason to get a flipper zero as well tbh haha
