Like at an airport parking lot, with about 40% charge. Will it lose any of the charge?

No, it'll be fine and that's a good level for it to be at while you're away.

I believe best practices is to store it at 50% or less for how long I have no idea. Perhaps someone with better information will post.

What are the expected temperatures for the time period it will be sitting?

My MY23 was one of the ones that had a hold on delivery after the fire at Ford in Feb '23. It sat at the transfer yard for 9 weeks at 70% soc. I've had zero issues to date. I think it dropped 3% over the 9 weeks it sat in the cold in Toronto.

That must be where I remember the 50% from!
So for a couple of weeks it doesn’t matter??
Right. Less than 30 days it's fine. And 40% is fine vs. 50%.

I do believe the Lightning will into a deep sleep mode of sorts.
Scared me last time that happened, as it took a while to fire up. I thought I had killed it somehow, but all was good.

I believe the recent released charts would suggest you bump up the 40% to 50% during this uncertain winter weather.

This was a complete shock to me and I have yet to read why this is happening.

I just had mine sitting for almost a month while traveling, temperatures mostly between 40 and 70 F. Didn't lose any noticeable charge.

On a related note, I store my truck in an unheated but below grade garage for most of the winter. It rarely if ever goes below freezing, usually staying in the mid-40's. The post above from the Ford manual recommends disconnecting the 12V battery. However when I stored it last winter, I left the battery connected and on a Noco battery tender. Seemed to work fine and SOC was still at the 50% I stored it at almost 4 months earlier.

Which leads to my question. Is one method clearly better than the other, or does it not matter?

I left mine for over a month at SeaTac with no problem, about 65% charge. This is how I know that the guess-o-meter is completely goofy, it said that I wouldn’t make it home without charging (it is fairly flat from Seattle to where I live).
