I've ridden this highway, on my motorcycle back in Summer of 1986. I can indeed attest that, at least in 1986, pretty much the whole highway on Newfoundland until You got to the Saint Johns area in the East was one solid stretch of desolate albeit beautiful road.

I'd be surprised if it has changed much since then.

Hey fellas thanks for the Add!! This YouTube video has brought me to your forum! Yes that’s right! I’m the guy who posted the video!

This fire happened on the trans Canada highway outside Norris arm Newfoundland. This video was Taken close to the main off-ramp to the trans Canada highway so it was far from the “middle of nowhere”. Most places on the island are pretty rural so when you leave a community it’s usually a long while before you see any other community’s or anything at all besides more highway.

It may look like there is no one else in the video but one lane of the highway was closed and they were only letting one lane pass at a time, there was actually a massive line of other vehicles behind the truck recording this video and you can actually see their lights in the rear view mirror in the video.

This lightning burned for hours and they had to bury the remains of the vehicle to get it to stop burning.

With regards to the “fireman’s jacket” the people who are in the truck recording this video are heavy duty mechanics who work outdoors in hi-vis gear on the regular, and that jacket is far from a fireman’s jacket. They knew it was a “battery operated truck” because someone there (probably a first responder) had told them it was a EV fire.

From what I know The owners are safe and called the fire department, being outside of town first responders showed up quick and then an advisory’s was posted online to let others know there was a fire on the main highway.

I’m assuming most of you own lightnings & i hope that something like this never happens to any of you, but to say this is “staged” is a bit far fetched. I have nothing against EV’s but I wanted to clear the air that this actually happened, and was a real emergency.

If any of you are wondering why I posted the video to begin with, it was simply because I thought my guys reaction was hilarious.

I wish you all the best.

Hey Matt, thanks for the clarification. Your youtube video has no information on it about where it was filmed, and the reactions from the two in the truck were so animated, it did have the sense of a spoof! Even the way he swerved the steering wheel seemed a bit delayed and exaggerated. Glad no one was hurt.

I guess the majority of stable F150 Lightning owners aren't on here, which is disappointing.
Or chosing to not engage.

Or waiting for more information before joining the conversation.

Haven't seen it posted yet, anyone know anything about it ?

just because those yahoo's say it's a lightning doesn't make it one. Batteries burn but explode? that was a gas tank exploding.

This is deep in the middle of Newfoundland. I've never had the pleasure (or misfortune) of driving this route but this is a sparsely populate area. A friend of mine is actually from Grand Falls-Windsor, which is close there. It seems to me there are a disproportionate number of fires of all types in that area, much like where I live now.
sparsely populated indeed. a charging station within a couple hundred miles? the fire may have been real but batteries don't explode but gasoline certainly does

Likey the explosion wasn’t from batteries or fuel. New vehicles have a fair bit of magnesium in the steering column that can explode when it gets hot enough. This was a EV truck. The remains of the batteries had to be buried to be extinguished.

thanks... another explanation: a couple of 5 gallon gas cans in the bed!

In case you missed it...

If you look at the video, you can see the Lightning grill just as the guy says "effin...."
You also have the clarification from the guy who posted the video.
You also have the facebook post that I linked to previosuly.

It was (unfortunatley) a Lightning.

What's the big deal?

With incomplete context, It looked staged, there is a lot of anti-EV propaganda, and a lot of it comes from the type of guy that would say "fucking battery operated trucks."

Also, there have only been two other reported Lightning fires out of 72K+ sold, one in the Ford delivery yard, and one in Maryland. So, it's very uncommon.

But with more evidence, it looks legitimate, and it would be nice to know from the driver what happened.

This is such a weird thread. It seems like a battle between anti-EV and pro-EV folks.
